This article about Officer Mike Remmel should be a must read for every potential CHP officer and every legislator who has ever questioned the need for more officers and better benefits.
Mike exemplifies the courage and determination that is such an important part of being a CHP officer. I am humbled to be part of the brotherhood of officers like this.
Mike, I salute you.

Brian thank you for posting that!!!
I was unaware of this incident and am saddened to hear about, BUT i see why you posted it because Officer Mike Remmel is a brave man. I pray that he is able to make it back on active duty.
Officer Remmel's display of strength, courage and determination is astonishing after such an unfortunate accident. I would like to believe that I would react with the same integrity and positivity if that happened to me.
He truly is an inspiration. I certainly hope he can return to what he loves to do...

wow. thanks so much for sharing that. it boggles my mind that someone could experience such tragedy and be so hopeful so quickly. i loved this part:
"All I could think about was that I was still here. I wasn't dead. I'm alive. And not only am I alive, I'm coherent. I thank God I have what's left of me. I'm going to survive. I'm going to see my kids graduate from high school. I'm here."
and right he is. what an amazing example...

Kevin Holsome who lost a leg while assisting a motorist returned to work with a bionic leg. I remember meeting Holsome when I was pretty new and I drove off the Harbor because I saw flashing lights west on Manchester. My trainee and I drove up and I said what's West LA doing here, little did I know they had alot of unincorperated. Kevin had "Hollywood" painted on the back of his helment back then. There's a video from KCBS2 Los Angeles. If Holsome can come back, Remmel can't be too far behind.

Allow me to assist (at least this is what I did) Do a search using the words "highway patrol" The video is on page two and is titled "LAPD Officer Back On The Beat After Losing A Leg"

Just make sure you do the search in the "video library" portion of the page and not the search box in the upper corner.
