random posting and a shot in the dark, buuuuut... we JUST found out that there was an awful mixup and my husband will have to work the night of the concert. :( we have four lawn seats for friday the 29th to see jack johnson at 7:30 p.m. at the verizon amphitheater in irvine. we're just looking to recoup the money we spent on the tickets, $250.00 (the tickets were only $40.00 each, but then we had to pay the ticketmaster fee, the printing fee, and the shipping fee @@).

Who's Jack Johnson? I have never heard of him either I'm too old or too young I don't know.

he does mellow acoustic guitar-y stuff, does jimmy buffet covers and the likes. he did the soundtrack for the "curious george" movie, if you have any kids around who have ever seen that. we've been following him his entire career (even pre-album) and we're big enough fans that we bought tickets to all four of this week's california concerts. the way scheduling worked out, we're only going to get to make it to one concert. :( and even that is only courtesy of a REALLY GREAT sergeant who is letting my husband come in a little late. anyway, even my parents have gone to his concerts with us and they're surely stuck in their era.
tickets are currently pending payment...

I love Jack Johnson!! I saw him at red rocks about 2 years ago. I am jealous of the person you sell the tickets to. Good luck.

we almost went to see him at red rocks! he would be AMAZING there. we used to always catch him at the waikiki shell, which was another venue that was suitable for his shows. didn't he just play at red rocks? or at least somewhere in colorado?
as it stands, it looks like i may be taking the kids to the concert solo, unless someone who wants the tickets actually comes through and, you know, pays for them. not sure how fun it's going to be with three kids under five and me being pregnant, but it'll at least be an adventure!
craigslist? they should be sold in minutes, no?

Well as a CHP wife part of the job description is to go about your plans as usual, take the kids anyhow. Don't cancel things the kids are looking forward to because of daddy's schedule.

i know that all too well! unfortunately, the realities of it are another thing when you're talking about a 5yo, 3yo, 1yo, and when you're seven months pregnant and are going to be totally alone. i'm all about doing things on our own, but it's not my first choice to take three kids those ages to a concert by myself.

Ahhhh yes been there done that, but hubby wasn't a chippy at the time. (he just had a crazy schedule like one) My 3 boys were 5 and under when I was about to pop w/ my daughter and something similar happened. I hated having to SUCK IT UP and go to our planned venue alone w/ 3 VERY active boys 5 and under, but I just didn't want our money to go to waste. (no craigslist or internet at the time . wow how'd I survive haha) We lived near Oceanside then and boy was it hard doing the beach, social events, and etc....... w/ the boys so young and curious, and daddy gone so much. It's routine for the kids now to be "handled" all by myself and I for one think they were well trained for this since they've known it all their lives. Having done it before w/ 3 under 5 and one in the belly (oh how I miss those days haha) it can be done w/ an exhausted smile on the face and I wish ya the best. The concerts what 2 hrs? Probably the longest 2 hrs w/ 3 young ones, but oh the adventures of motherhood and pregnancy haha.

concert starts at 7:30 p.m., a half hour post-bedtime, and is a couple of hours away. i can't imagine we'd be getting back on the road much earlier than midnight-ish, were we to see it to the end. while jack johnson concerts are generally more laid-back than some others, i'm sure you can understand why it wouldn't be ideal for me to take our kids alone, especially the extra-needy one-year-old, to an outdoor lawn concert given where it is, when it is, and how outnumbered i'll be. even if it were considered by some to be ideal, it's not necessarily a fruitful trip. my guess is that the baby won't last very long at all. it was never our original plan to take ALL of the kids. again, i'm well-versed on solo parenting and am all about "i am woman, hear me roar," especially as i was a military wife before i was ever a chp wife. this just isn't something that is an ideal situation for our family, especially when we already have tickets to tomorrow's show. going to the beach or a birthday party or even disneyland is one thing, but the dynamics of this are a little different.
we tentatively sold the tickets this morning and are meeting to exchange soon anyhow.

The only song I know is the theme song for Curious George Movies, my nephews watch all the time and the song is great...

i guess the "we" in "we are big fans" is more me and my side of the family than it is my husband. he'd probably maintain that he's along for the ride and counter, "yeah, well, what kind of card do you get when you go to a jack johnson concert only because your wife is obsessed with him? oh, wait. that's not a card, is it..."
edited to add: and that's supposed to come across as funny and not at all snarky. sense of humor? yeah, i'm lacking...

And then some might say his "Real Man" card is in full display for his kids to see when he puts on a happy face and goes to see Jack Johnson, or Disney on Ice, with the family. Then the kids will see him as "Superman".
