Hi Everyone -
I've been checking this website http://www.chp.ca.gov/cadet/index.html over the last few weeks to see if they have updated it with CTC III info but have not seen anything. Do any of you know when and how frequent this webpage gets updated?
Also, any idea on how many cadets have left the academy so far?
Thanks!

Check out that thread because it has some good information about the III info on the page you were asking about. As far as how many cadets are left, I think they are down to 226 or something like that.
In the past, it has been a couple weeks before they had the class going. They USUALLY (take that word lightly) update on Wed or Thurs. Most likely, when it does come up, it will be 2-3 weeks at one time. There's a lot going on.

Don't count on it staying around 200. My husband is in CTC II-08 and as of the end of week 13 (so 2 1/2 weeks ago) they were down to 167 (started w/ 212). And they still have over 11 weeks to go!

Speaking of graduation.... is the actual graduation ceremony taking place on January 23? Or will it be the following day (Sat.)?It will be on the 23rd (a Friday) so plan now. For my son's, it started about 930am with inspection, followed by the graduation part at 10, badge pinning about 1045am, then the Fountain Ceremony, and the packing of the bags! About 1pm they let us go to see an exhibition of the high speed driving. Initially, I was going to skip this and go home to pack (we were leaving on vacation) since I had seen it on Youtube, but we were still there, so opted to watch. It is SO MUCH MORE INTENSE in person. We finally left about 3pm.

Badge pinning was outside for my husband's class. The ceremony was inside the gym, and inspection was out in front of the administration building.

Yes, it is dependent on how many are graduating and how many are taken by dignitaries, etc. We were told 4 originally, ended up with 4 for the gym and 4 for the classroom. We gave one of each away to those with bigger families. You don't need a ticket to watch inspection or badge pinning, but you have to come in the gate with someone who has a ticket. You guys have a while to go before you worry about this, though. We were not given the final ticket count until a couple weeks before graduation.

Which class did your husband graduate with, JRSfan?
For CTC I-07, the fountain was under construction, so we weren't able to do pinning by the fountain or any of that. We were out on the lawn for pinning. Got 4 tix for inside ceremony, 4 for the "TV viewing room". Not sure if someone mentioned this or not, but there's also childcare available for kids who are potty trained, so that's a nice option if you have kids who are too little to be in the ceremony but old enough be potty trained. Guess they don't want the babysitting cadets to have to change diapers! Our schedule went pretty much the way Mom described it, and I believe she was referring to CTC II-07 just to give you an idea of how recent this was. I agree, stay around for the EVOC demo, it is amazing in person no matter how many times you've seen it on youtube!
On topic of grad week, I also recommend that you put some serious effort into showing up for the Capitol Run, Wednesday morning of grad week. It's pretty early in the morning, but wow what an inspiring sight! It's a totally different thing from graduation; at grad they're polished and at their shiniest but seeing my husband's class do their Capitol Run gave me goosebumps. Plus it was a great bonding time with my partner-in-suffering wife friend from the class! Nothing like getting up at 4am to cement a friendship

Wow, so your husband is just off of break in? So he’s been on his own for about a month now? How is that going for him?
Like StarGrl said, my son was CTC II-07. Inspection was in front of the Admin building. Ceremony in the gym, we mulled around in the rec room before the inspection. The class graduation 140+, and there were 3 "inside" tickets and 3 tv room tix per graduate. After the graduation ceremony, the cadets marched out to the flagpole in front again, circled the flag pole for pinning. Contingency plan was to have pinning under the overhangs of the buildings surrounding the fountain area in case of rain. Following the pinning, we watched the chosen company perform the Fountain ceremony. EVOC was simply amazing.
And I will third the being there for the week. I was unable to go, due to work. But my DIL did enjoy watching the activities.
BTW - CTC II-08 blog is up. Hopefully III will be soon!

That's nice, we were sad to miss out on the fountain, I think there was a fountain ceremony at most grads? I loved that pic of all the cadets forming the star around it, aerial view.
So, III-07 ... Is your hubby done with break-in? There was a communal sigh of relief in our household once that was over. Of course, newby wives like us are just getting started, I'm sure there's more we'll be learning down the road about what it's like to be married to a CHP officer! We're inching our way toward the end of probation, and I surely enjoy looking BACK at the academy days & break-in! Onwards & upwards

They'll get better. They take close-up pictures as well. They also trade off each week as to which Company has the camera, so those pictures may not even be your Cadet's Company.
I wish they made them bigger, I can't find my cadet. That's ok, I'll show him and see if he can tell me where he is.If they are following the pattern, most of the pics are of Company B. If you know what company he is in, that will tell you if he is even in the pics. Disclaimer: They may have changed this. Also, pics on my screen are decent size. When I click on the pic, it becomes about 1/4 of the screen.

I can't remember when exactly, but I think it was a little pass 1/2 way through hubby's class CTC I-07 and CTC II-07 started that they started up w/ the blogs, pics ,and class count updates. It was really a nice surprise to see pics. Verrrryyyy hard to tell in a big group which handsome buzz cut guy was mine. Heck even in a small group w/ their side profiles it was hard to tell. I had to have him point himself out a couple of times.
Makakona, what a difference a year makes right? Your husband's class was just coming off of probation when my husband's class had started the academy. Time sure does fly by as now CTC I-07 is ALMOST off probation w/ roughly 7 weeks to go. CAN I GET AN AMEN CTC I-07?:lol::lol:

I believe you should be able to right click on a picture and save it as images on to your computer. VERY IMPORTANT to save your pictures weekly since when they update the previous pictures were gone for us. Hope that helps. Oh just looked at our class and they began during week 17 w/ the blogs, pics, and class size weekly updates. VERY COOL.

I saved all of the pics for my hubby's class (like Rayni mentioned) and at the end of the academy created a poster through Snapfish for $20. It took me about 10 minutes to create and I was able to pick it up at Staples next day. It came out really cool.

I know that for the past few classes (ours included), there was also a "spousal panel" meeting on Thursday morning at the academy for spouses and significant others of the new officers. The panel consists of various members of the department who gave presentations on topics generally pertaining to life with an officer and information about the various programs that the CHP offers its family. There was also a panel of wives who each had a topic to discuss and were there to answer any questions.
I was definitely glad that I attended as I did learn quite a bit of information.

For my husband's grad week, some other wives and I headed up Tuesday afternoon. We all stayed at the same hotel and stayed up late laughing and hanging out. Then we went to the Capitol Run early Wednesday morning, and it is a can't miss. Then we had time to hang out and nap before getting ready for the graduation party Wednesday night. Thursday midday was a family support panel for us, and it was very helpful! Then Friday brought the inspections, graduation, badge pinning ceremony, and EVOC demonstration. It was all worth being there for. If you want more specific details you can PM me.

 My husband's class (I-08) did not get to do their Capitol Run, due to the horribly smoky conditions Graduation week (it looked overcast during graduation, but it was NOT cloud cover). They were bussed over to about a block away from the capitol, then jogged in. My husband said they were all SO dissapointed, because it is such a huge accomplishment to do it.

My husband graduated in July, and I got a hotel room Wednesday and Thursday nights (for the party, and so I would be there early for graduation Friday). My husband stayed with me at the hotel both nights, but had to be signed back in by 0559 Thursday and Friday mornings. CTC I-08 started with 167, and ironically enough, graduated with 108.
Scary thing was, the last one in their class was booted AFTER doing his ride-along with his assigned area office... in other words, his Class "A" was already hanging in his closet. Don't stop holding your breath until the badge is on your chest!

Not to rain on your parade, but graduation isn't the end of it. Break-in can be just as tough as the academy. Be prepared to be as supportive as I'm sure you were through the academy... It's almost over on graduation day, but not yet. Count on your new officer being just as unavailable and busy until they get off break-in. We still lose some on break-in. I had the displeasure of saying goodbye to a company-mate on break-in. Think of it as 'super-double-secret-probation'. After break in, it's just 'probation' until the 1 year mark.
Take some time and let them relax on the week in between. Enjoy the break and keep encouraging.
Keep up the support! I'm sure your officer appreciates it.
I have to agree with pinkrocks. Graduation just means you made it through the academic part, now comes the hard part, can you apply what you learned to real life. Break in will test you, just like the academy tests you. Don't start breathing easy just because you have the badge.

I totally agree! My husband has the lucky/unlucky distinction of being the only newbie at his office (though one of his seniors is there...). Good, because he gets a chance to be the only new kid, and not be compared to every other new kid; bad, for the same reason - he has to work twice as hard because the only comparison is everyone else at the office with WAY more experience. He is almost done with 2nd phase, and is already biting at the bit to get on his own (not that he thinks he knows it all, he is just really excited to prove himself "worthy").

We are all excited to get out 'on our own' I think. I'm not that far ahead of your hubby, so it's all still fresh in my mind. Good for you for being so positive and supportive. That is priceless for him, trust me!
