Prior to posting this, I performed a searched but did not yield any results.

When I'm bored, I visit the Traffic Incident Information Page a lot.
Do anyone have any info on that website? History, etc.
Thanks
I read that there will be a hardware upgrade on that site starting at 0000 on Tuesday.

If you are asking why it's not working, I believe your answer is in your own post.

Oh no, I wasn't asking that. I just never saw the Traffic Incident page being mentioned here before.

People have cut and pasted incidents from that site here a few times. If to much detail is listed dw will go in and edit the text.

Remember the Chicken Dance at 9am by the winery?!

When I'm bored, I visit the Traffic Incident Information Page a lot.
When I'm at work and remember to bring my laptop.
I have that page fired up and loaded on my computer, and constantly check it throughout the day.
We're in Commerce (near East LA) and we have a large stretch of freeway that we are first-in on.... {I-710 from Florence to Cesar Chavez & I-5 from I-605 to Indiana Ave (Los Angeles City Border)}
Often when an traffic collision happens on the freeway, there aren't any details available immediately, and LaCOFD/Ambulance isn't always rolling (until a CHP officer get o/s -or- the RP calls back and gives details)
By watching the CAD, We can usually give ourselves a 2-3 minute heads up (sometimes it's a 10-15m heads up that we'll have a call), between when the call comes into the CHP, and when we roll.
In my experience, a lot of people don't decide that they're injured until a CHP officer comes on scene, which is when we get called.
Long story short... CHP CAD == COOL

+1, i use the cad when i dispatch. Fire will send us a location for a NB TC and when the crew is UTL the cad usually has the correct information up.

Wow, that's cool. When I'm on that page, I can see how busy the CHP is with a lot of calls to respond to. How do you guys find the time to cite traffic violators? It seems like calls come in hot every day. Kudos to you guys.
Is that very same page displayed in the patrol cars? Something similar?

I have that bookmarked on my iPhone for Sacramento.. when traffic is backed up a great deal, I just use it to check to see where the actual accident/disabled vehicle is so I can possibly avoid that route.
it's handy information!

I wish my brother had an iphone to look at. When he's stuck in traffic on the 5 here in So. Cal, he'd call me and ask me to check for him. It's handy indeed.
Has anybody else found the information in the system to be less-than-timely?
I don't know how closely that web site is linked to the internal system, but I have heard radio calls initiate or conclude events 10-30 minutes before the web site reflects it.

Ditto here! I work in a dispatch center as well and I find it very useful. We dispatch city police and fire and it has helped me numerous times! It also helps when fire is sent to a call on the freeway along with CHP and fire requests more information. It is quicker to check the website instead of wasting time on the phone. Another example of being helpful is one day they had a report of a big rig that had rolled over and had rolled down the embankment on another vehicle on one of our city streets. Just by chance I was looking on the site and got our own officers and fire department on the way, just as we were being contacted by CHP dispatch. Who knows, that little time couldve saved a life.

I never seem to find it to be slow, it always seems to be right on top of it.

A lot of times, dispatch shows the unit clear scene, but at a different location (ie. hospital, follow-up address, office on paperwork, etc.) and will not close out the log for a while. The system is in 1 minute updates.

Watching calls in my area and listening to my scanner (yep, even after retiring) the CAD is pretty close to real time.

I think the CAD and Live Scanners are just about a minute off, not 10-30mins. :noidea:

Our screens have all of the lines of the details of the logs. The public page only has a few lines here and there.
The display is similar, but there is a lot of info in the logs that is "blocked" on the public page (license plates, driver's license numbers and names of involved parties, witness names, phone numbers, etc.).

Cool. In your patrol car, are you able to see incidents in the whole division (such as the whole Southern division) or only where you're assigned to (subdivision) (ie. Newhall, West LA)? Just curious and interested.

You can view incidents in any division, I do believe, but only get details of those in your dispatch area.

I think someone needs to go on a ride-a-long ... I think they allow minors on ride-a-longs depending on the division, but your mom/dad has to sign the waiver... You should look into it.
You'll probably have fun, and if you didn't have fun, then you'll probably find out that this isn't the job for you... I've asked many an officer, and many of them have told me that, they love their job so much, they'd do it for free... (unfortunately, ya gotta pay the bills too...)

Nope you need to be in the hiring process to go on a ride along.

hrmm. I was trying to figure out why there was a box on the ridealong release form for the authorized guardian/parent to sign for people going on ride-a-longs that were minors... I know that it wouldn't make sense, but I was just going with what the form inferred...

Our family checks the page very often during the day, and the commuters in the family use it a lot. Once in awhile some of the private info escapes and gets on the public page --that seems to have been cleared up some since I discussed it with a SGT. I learned to NEVER look at theinfo on loose animals, dead or alive --can't stand it. I hid my scanner from the grandchildren some time ago, and still haven't found it!

Anybody else think the new version of the CAD page leaves a little to be desired? It always defaults to Sac CC, you can't save a custom region and 1144s aren't on the Hot Spots page... I've noticed the 1144/Hot Spot thing even on our super-secret departmental intranet CAD page, too... Is this all a side effect of the new CAD system they're rolling out?

The upgrade seems to be working as intended...
Also, MDC search logged in MDS's for North Sac. It always comes up empty on mine since the new CAD was rolled out. They all have new cars so I know it's not the lack of laptops...

a) Let's keep the internal chatter and whining on the Chippies Only side.
b) Yes, there are going to be some changes in functionality, and lack of cross communication between the old CAD and the new CAD as this rollout progresses. That's kinda the way it works.
c) The content on both the public and private CADweb sites, as fed by the new CAD system, is going to be different. They are still working on the formatting and availability of the content. If you have any suggestions, please advise the folks in the CAD unit, as opposed to vaguely crying about it on the Internet. I'll bring these most recent suggestions to the team.

Looks like they thought the public was getting too much information too quickly. They'll probably solve those on your end after a bit, but I doubt the public side is going to change much now

I was going to post this on the Chippies Only side initially, but I figured the CAD page was a public resource available to anyone, and a non-chippie might have a valid point of view about it, so I kept it over here.
As far as the no Custom Area and automatic default to Sac Comm, I didn't know if that was something new or if my ancient, hand-cranked computer just couldn't support the new version. I wasn't about to go bug the CAD guys at work because I have a problem with cookies on my personal antique laptop.
This is a picture of the CPU in my laptop: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Antikythera_model_front_panel_Mogi_Vicentini_2007. JPG

I have had the same problems.
My custom region will not save and I have to re-create it everytime I log on.
It always defaults to Sacramento Dispatch.
I hope this is a glitch in the new system and will be cured sometime soon.

I had a small but notable incident yesterday on EB50. I lost a sizable tree trunk round from the trailer at rush hour in the #3. I immediately notified 911 dispatch, and waited. Luckily only 1 vehicle hit it with only tire damage, but it stayed in the lane until a passing SO officer retrieved it. I was ordered to wait for CHP, but after about an hour, of no show, I was released with time served:smile:. The other vehicle was towed. The incident never appeared on the CAD though, as this happened very close to home and I checked it soon after.
