So I am twenty five years of age. I have always thought about law enforcement but never pursued it. I have been thinking for the last four years this is something I would enjoy doing very much so. Problem is at the age of nineteen I got a DUI :hitwall: I was a stupid teenager and totally botched everything for a one minute drive home. My question is does this DUI ruin my chances of becoming a CHP officer? I have never had a drink since I received my DUI. I see a lot of people go through the cadet training and pass the test but fail the background check. Am I wasting my time or should I still give this a shot? This is something I really would like to do. Thanks in advance.

The CHP does not expect to hire perfect applicants. If they did many of us wouldn't be here. We want to include applicants who have made errors in life, learned from those mistakes and don't repeat their past poor behavior. I would strongly suggest you begin this journey, be totally honest about your past and hope for the best.

At the risk of receiving bad information or criticism for your past I'm going to shut this down now and wish you best of luck. Remember to use the search feature and do your research before jumping in.
