Current status on hiring

I know application are being accepted on a daily basis but anyone know if testing/training have been done at all this year??

They are in a state of constant testing and hiring. They are running 4 classes a year........

Dispatcher? Again, ongoing.

Other positions may be on hold right now, given whats going on with the lack of a budget, etc.


Take a look around this site, read DW's dissertations, and then search. You'll find a TON of stuff related to hiring........

Yeah I meant for Dispatcher, sorry about that.

Im pretty sure they don't have ongoing training like they do for cadets so I was just curious if hirings for this year is looking bleak.

At this point, we have not been told there is a hold on hiring. Several centers still have vacancies that need filling. There will be an upcoming test in Oct/Nov - the application deadline for that is Sept 4.

Training is ongoing for newly hired dispatchers, and 90% of it takes place in the center. There is some training that occurs at the Academy, but when you attend that depends on when we can get you in. You may do several weeks/months at your center before getting to the Academy (not ideal, but it's the nature of how things are right now.)

To see which centers have openings, go to: http://jobs.spb.ca.gov/wvpos/adv_search.cfm

and type in Public Safety Dispatcher in the Job Title field. If you are seriously contemplating a position as a PSDII, get your app in, and make sure you list one of the centers with vacancies as the center you wish to test for (on page one of the STD678).

Awesome thanks for the information. I sent in my application yesterday so hopefully things roll quickly. Just curious though what is the hiring process for Dispatcher. Exam -> Interview -> Training ??
