Through the eyes of a young wife. Here is a blog that a young wife has going about her man's life at the academy. His class started in April CTC II-08). You may enjoy her insight into the trials and tribulations of her range of emotions.

Thanks, Papa. I think she's a very good writer and I get anxious/excited just reading about Greg's trials and progress.

I hope Staff Office does not see this blog. He and his roommates will get more attention then they could ever imagine! PT will also be more interesting...I would be careful how much I would put in the blog. A couple famous posters from my class got some attention as well! I didn't post for about 7 months. I attempted to stay a ghost...but that didn't work out to well. Good luck to your hubby!!!
I am thirding the WOWs. This truly is NOT good. Let's see, we have pics of the officer, his wife, his parents, his siblings, where they are, where they live... and the list goes on.
And not only has he been implicated to the staff, so have his roommates.

considering most of the staff instructors visit the forums frequently, the last thing you want is your cadet's name and picture posted with personal stories etc., so that he can become MORE of a target. remember they want to blend and NOT stand out....

Peace officers generally and CHP officers specifically, value their anonymity for a variety of reasons including safety and security. I have not had a listed phone number for over 40 years.

When you post just remember that the academy staff could be reading posts. But, the forums will give you a place to be able to PM people without it being public - like "OMG My husband just can't learn his 10 codes how can I help?" You don't want the academy staff seeing that (they will be in his face quizing him the next day) but you will have read posts from other wives and know who you feel comfortable asking in private.
I would avoid identifying your cadet in any way. Save that for PM's.
Don't post anything like "he snuck in a phone call at lunch" or "he says the homework is not bad" or "PT is really easy for him" or "PT is really hard for him".
Remember, once something is out there on the internet it is there forever.
I'm still thinking about the blog where the wife said the baton test was too hard since only 2 cadets in the company passed it. I can just imagine the staff's response to that.

Hi, I'm the owner of the blog posted. It has been recommended to me to make it an "invite only" blog, to hopefully provide some security.
I am more than happy to allow anyone (especially CTC III-08 wives!) to read it, just PM me w/ an email address and I'll invite you.
I had not intended for this blog to be a hazard in anyway, but simply a way of keeping our family and friends up to date while my husband is in the Academy.
Please let me know if you want to be added to the list, so you can read it.
Thanks.
I'll play the part of the naive one: why is this bad? Is it b/c an officer should not expose his personal information?I don't suppose you read the post I linked to...?

I am going to encourage all wives, girlfriends and significant others to email stunt362 and request to be allowed access to her site.
The information she imparts is beneficial for all of you because she is documenting her personal emotions and pride - the same emotions and pride all of you are experiencing. stunt362's insight to her own emotions is a great therapy for her.
It is too bad my wife and Chippysgt's wife did not have a similar site when we were cadets.
There is nothing in her site that should be interpreted by anyone that is adverse to the state, department, academy, etc. There is nothing secretive taking place at that facility that will jeopardize the people of this state or nation.
Alertness, awareness, emotional stability, intellectual reasoning and good interpersonal relationships are necessary for peaceful coexistence. Paranoia will destroy!
BTW, has anyone seen the reality show "The Academy?"

I watch it all the time. I was in that academy in 1987 (during the academy I got sick and later diagnosed with a muscular disease) and can tell you not much has changed in 21 years. The first episode the commands the class Sgt kept messing up on came right back to me from some burried corner of my mind.
I think it offers some good insight into why some of the things are done the way they are.

This show is totally my new addiction. I love it and it makes me feel like I know what my boyfriend is talking about when he talks about the academy.

Tomorrow night is the 2 hour finale of The Academy but you can purchase episodes from the season on Itunes. The last season was better in my opinion, but the show is always entertaining.

You can actually watch them for free on Hulu.com. You can watch a lot of shows for free there. I've been catching up on last season too.

Ok...so I had just gotten off the phone with my fiance who is in CTC III-08 and "The Academy" came on the channel I was watching. I had never even heard of it but I just thought that was pretty ironic! I got soo into it and I totally felt the same way as you did! Watching that helped me get a deeper sense of what it's like for him. Now I just need to know when next season starts.

i do watch the show and enjoy some aspects...but i do have to admit its hard for me to feel that there's much of a comparison between what my husband is going through and a place where they get to go home nightly and the staff instructors seem very......"friendly". there are other reasons, Hollywood involved, that make me proud of what my husband is doing in comparison to that show.

hehe! That's kind of a coincidence. I'm glad that you like the show. I have all the episodes taped on my DVR so I have to watch them soon. I really like the show a lot. Like you said, I have a lot more respect for all the cadets (not just mine) and the staff officers. They care but they have to be hard on you. I don't really agree completely with Hezawrad about the Hollywood thing but I understand how she feels. I could see how it might come of that way. I just know that the academy is longer and harder for our cadets than "The Academy". But it will be over before we know it.

There is something to be said for living and breathing the academy Monday thru Friday. LASD gets to go home but leaving at 7 PM and being back at 4:30 am plus commute. Then when they get home instead of eating in a mess hall and studying without interference they have family pressures like being expected to eat and spend time with the family.
Their Academy is shorter but their version of Break-in is 6 months instead of 6 weeks with all of it high pressure. No Law Enforcment Academy is easy. And I can pretty much guarantee every agency thinks theirs is harder than someone else. Just like they all thing XXX is better than XXX.
