It's hell week for my Junior Cadet! Let's hope they can pull together and become Seniors real soon!
Good luck to the incoming cadets, it is an emotional week for everyone involved, including your loved ones. Keep your eye on the badge and know everything they do at the academy is for the longevity of your career!
I hope you have all been running!
hehehe Yes, I messed up. Actually, its KCRA's fault. They were showing a live shot this morning (from the traffic helicopter) of the Academy and cadets marching in PT gear, and commented it was the new cadets, and my brain went "Its 7am, they are just arriving..." It was TOOO early....
OK, be ready for heart attacks for the next week....

Okay, so the pledges of CTC III-08 have just three days to go before the trials begin. In those three days to come, take the time to tell your loved ones how you feel about them, make certain you have ample letter writing materials or short notes, plenty of pens, stamps etc. Try to write at least once a week and re-enforce your affection to your family. Study hard, stand tall, commit to self-discipline and enjoy the experiences about to befall you. Good luck from those of us who have gone before you. Study hard and be proud that you have been given the opportunity to attend one of the finest law enforcement training schools in the world. Your badge awaits you.

Started with 239 (one no-show) and I believe we've lost 7, definitely not more than 8 though. Come Monday might be a different story though....

Thats too bad. I'm sure they had great reasons. I would of been so happy to have been given a chance in that academy class.
Good luck to the rest of you out there about to go back on Sunday evening. Don't give up.

I don't doubt it, just going off of word of mouth through the company commanders and staff.

To me it is amazing that 11 cadets have dropout already, you got to wonder what type of commitment they had going into the process. If they was not committed enough to give it everything they got they should have never applied. My god it only the first week what were they thinking; how can anyone give up so easily. Where do they find these people?
Just my 2 cents........:hitwall:
IMO, it's a good thing. About 95% of those who ring out in the first week are non-hackers and those who do not pack the gear to serve as a Highwayman. They either did not prepare themselves properly, lack motivation and commitment, do not have the mental and intestinal fortitude that it takes, and/or realized (much later than they should have) that this job just isn't for them. Better to discover it now than out in the field when it's ON and somebody's life depends on them.

I'd rather they resign now in the academy then during break in or probation. I know of a new officer who quit during week 2 or 3 of break in. It was heart wrenching to watch my husband and some old salts try to talk this guy down from resigning. For most it's just a temporary emotion to quit and something, when they are an officer can laugh at later. This guy however was just bombarded w/ personal stuff and the reality of being an officer on the road had hit him. They really tried to get him to work through it, but mentally he was just wiped. Time has passed and he REGRETS it so much. It's sad, but we both would rather him quit then, instead of when he was someone's beat/graves partner. So to the aspiring cadets/applicants GET YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW. Weed out those who don't support you now, pay down your credit cards (don't take on new toys or buy big ticket items), REALLY REALLY take a look at those who surround you, know that most likely you will move, & does your significant other REALLY get that & is willing to move or have a long distance relationship, go on ride along w/ a "busy" office ( no disrespect to the smaller offices as my husband went on a ton w/ our local one, but after attending his cadet ride along to his assigned office he received a WHOLE different kind of ride along. Afterwards saying to me " this is what ALL applicants should be exposed to since no one knows where they will end up." It was a HUGE eyeopener for my husband.) , and talk about all the what ifs w/ your support group. These are the people who know you and what you want and will continue to help you through out academy and probation time. This will also be some food for thought for your s.o/spouse to think of too. I know there where ultimatums once the reality of academy or break in started given by s.o/spouses, something like "me or CHP?" Maybe, I'm just cold, but I'd cut people loose from life who couldn't/haven't been supportive of me & not blink an eye if this is something I REALLY wanted and NEVER made them think otherwise. Now all that being said if you don't have your heart and mind in the pursuit of this career NONE of the above will help you out and keep focused. It's not just driving in the car, a shiny badge, gun on your hip, and a cool uniform. It's knowing every single car you pull over may have someone not wanting to go back to their country or to prison since they are on their 3rd strike and they will do whatever it takes including your life not to go back. It's been said MANY times before THE ACADEMY, BREAK IN, and PROBATION aren't the career. To me it's just the proving ground and paying your dues like others before you did. It hasn't been easy for us as our whole family dynamics has been changing since he went to the academy through now. We are rounding the corner to probation being done and it wasn't easy, but it has been worth it. It's such a long process to quit so early in the academy, but if you can't handle the stress in a controlled environment then................
Rayni, you said that very well. I know all 11 had their reasons for not returning (and so will the ones who do not return tonight), and I do chuckle at the one who just disappeared in the middle of the night. But, it does amaze me at the number who go through the process and quit. I still like the one who made the drive to the academy, got as far as walking up to the doors, then turn around and left on pick up day for CTC II-07.

That is amazing....someone gets all the way up to the door and turn around...
crazy! I still think the one that left in the middle of the night is funny.
To me it is amazing that 11 cadets have dropout already....Not to dispute your opinion, but 11 out of 240 is a record-low dropout rate in a first week.

Nothing to dispute, even through it a record low you still got to wonder what is going through their heads. I am also glad they left when they did so they didn't waste anymore of the tax payers money.

Hi MOM are your sure that was CTC II-O7? I thought we started with 189 because the of a no-show. That no-show got a DUI the day before pick-up day.:noidea:

To be honest, I'm glad a person like that didn't make it to the front gates.
Who knows what else this person might have done down the line had they made it through and onto the road.

Mom, I heard a story like that too. A former marine got in and on the first day he left. He regreted it and promised his BI that he was focused and was eventually promised a new class.... He drove up to sac and drove straight back down.....:hitwall:

If a cadet is a no show on pick up day is the BI who worked on that cadets background notified?

We had no one (who walked through the doors) leave. The staff started to grill us even more trying to get us to go. We stuck to it. Finally someone broke in the end of the second week due to injury in PT.

Rayni, you said that very well.
Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to say THANK YOU. It took me a bit to write out what I did , but this early in the game maybe something like what we all write will keep encouraging the new cadets to keep on going. So again thanks MOM.
If a cadet is a no show on pick up day is the BI who worked on that cadets background notified? If they are unsuccessful for any reason they're notified. And they have to return the toaster.
