so i am testing into the CHP through the golden gate division. Just finished up with the physical and psych test this last weekend. I passed the written on my first try and i must say i found it to be quite a breeze. I have my QAP tomorrow afternoon and i am very excited to even be this far along at only 21. My only concern is that i am afraid i will get turned down immidiately due to my driving record. I have recieved 4 basic speeding tickets since i turned 16 and i also have a few fix it tickets including illegal lights and no front plate as well as a accident about 3 years ago. To make things worse i was pulled over on 101 south about 2 weeks ago by a chippy that said she paced me at 80 in a 65 which i know for a fact to be false. Now please understand that i take full responsibility for my record in driving and i am in total agreement if i do not get accepted with this record but my main question is do i have a shot still even with this record and if they turn me down how long would/should i wait to re-apply? thanks alot in advance to your help!!!!!;)

Just properly explain yourself and show that you've changed, or are putting forth a serious effort to change with your driving habits, etc, and you should be fine.

Was it an at-fault accident?

It is what it is. Put it all down and give straight answers to questions asked of you. I have a bit of a driving record and I never got more than a question about whether I put everything down.
If you don't get the score you want, reapply next quarter and four times a year until they flat out tell you not to come back.
Good luck, don't give up!
Oh and repeat after me, "I'm sorry I was driving so fast maam, it won't happen again." A lot less trouble then trying to challenge an officer on a speed observation, they do it for a living we don't.

Show that you have learned from your mistakes.

The CHP knows that the applicants are not perfect people, which is why your riving record will probablly not be a shock to them. But what you must remember is that you have to be honest about all of the situations. When I applied I had 4 tickets & 2 at fault accidents. And I am currently in Backgrounds. As long as you are honest with them about everything i wouldnt worry to much. Chippies are humans, just like everyone else, and they do make mistakes. To expect the applicants to perfect citizens would not be logical or even possible, But what they do want is honest officers. Just remember honesty honesty honesty is the best policy.
Also, I got a speeding ticket from a chippie two weeks before my written, so dont wory.
Get ready for your QAP. Search around the forum a little and you will find tons of info about the QAP. Goodluck and make sure to keep us posted,

thanks to all for the comments...... yes i do plan to state evrything possible because i have nothing to lose and nothing to hide. I am willing to admit my mistakes if it means being accepted into a profession that is widely respected. in regards to my accident i was found at fault but i was not cited and to answer the question regarding my ticket just recently, i was doing roughly 67 to 70 in a 65 and i was not caught by radar but rather by pacing. I was actually pacing my friend in the other lane which im sure brought us some uneeded attention. The kicker here is that the citing officer was a new chp and was actually with her FTO and spent roughly 25 minutes trying to get my ticket down right. I mean when you look at my ticket half of the ticket is scribbled and crossed out lol its a mess. I am excited for my QAP tomorrow and i just got back from getting myself a brand new suit lol my lil treat:biggrin: I will let you all know how it goes tom. so stay posted.

Good luck tommorow.
And don't forget that "new" officer might be you one day.
Reson I asked that simple question was to see if you could admit fault. No matter what your friend was doing, you were still speeding.
Admit fault.
Don't shift blame.
EDIT- not trying to be tough on you, just something I learned the hard way. Be confident tommorow!

yes be confident, thats the best advice along with mine about honesty
Oh yeah, and like redhead said, even if you were only going 67, like you said, the speed limit is 65, so you borke the law either way. BUt dont let it bother you, just be honest, be cool, and good luck.
