OK I'm filling out my application and i have a question about a job i had. I had this one job for about 2 days and than i left cause they didn't train me in what i needed to know. The thing is i never filled out any hire paper work nor did i get a w2 from them. Do i still need to put that down as a job i had? Another thing is i cant even remember what date i worked? I reallly need some help in this one i dont want to get DQ for this. Thanks again and wish my luck on my PT saturday!

PUT IT DOWN. TRY YOUR BEST TO GIVE AN APPROX DATE. EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT YOU NEVER FILLED OUT THE PAPERWORK. ITS ALWAYS BETTER FOR YOU TO TELL THEM AND OVEREXPLAIN YOURSELF, THEN FOR THEM TO FIND IT AND THINK YOU ARE WITHHOLDING SOMETHING. GOOD LUCK!

I agree, put it down and let he BI decide if it was needed or not.

You must list all jobs, regardless of duration.

Now that leaves me with a similar question. I left out two jobs on my app. One was a temporary (call and go to work when you really need extra money) job for a studio company that moved equipment around. I simply put in 3 hours one day when I was broke and needed money and never went back. This is the kind of job that you call them when you need work and I never filled out an app or anything for this job. This job was brought up during the QAP and they simply told me that I will need to mention that to my BI and verify it somehow. But with all the excitement I forgot about another job! I had another job for about 3 days! This was not brought up during the QAP because I remembered it later when I was writing in my employment history in my PHS. I contacted the employer and they no longer have much of a record (writen warning and reason for termination) but do have a record of the days I worked. Do you think this will look bad on my part for mentioning it now. I included it in my PHS but I dont want to give the BI any reasons to DQ me.

I'm curious about the answer you get for this as well. I worked for about 4 hours during a major local SAR (I sat around standing by to stand by) four years ago. It didn't occur to me until I was filling out the PHS after my QAP so it's not on my examination application. If my wife hadn't mentioned I would have never remembered it. I did note it on my PHS and will explain it as needed.

Edit button is back, very cool!!!

First of all, it is not about giving your BI a reason to DQ you, it is about being honest and owning up to your mistake. You're applying to a Department for which honesty is paramount. If you're not willing to admit you made a mistake, that is a much more significant reason to "DQ you". You made a mistake as we all have, and while you are being judged on thoroughness and accuracy, what you described isn't the end of the world.

Hey, I had a job that I NEVER even knew I had!!!!
In my past life, I was a gymnastics coach. One gym I worked at had building/landlord problems during the competitive season, and I wound up coaching my team at another (enemy) gym. We were there for a week or so...acted so sweet & helpful, but in the end they stole a bunch of my team kids, yada yada yada...no love lost between us.
Fast forward a few years. I was at a CHP pre-test orientation when they mentioned that upon request Social Security can give you a copy of your work history. I thought that someone had to be really dumb to not know their work history, but took the advice and sent in for it anyway...typical 6-8 (or whatever) weeks until delivery. Meanwhile the PAT & QAP are passed. I get my conditional commitment to hire letter, and I'm waiting at the post office the next morning to send my background packet registerd/certified/insured/etc. That very afternoon (good 'ol Murphy & his law) I finally get something in the mail from Social Security. Seems this enemy gym processed me through their payroll for those few days!!! EEK! I LEFT OFF A 'JOB' I NEVER KNEW I HAD!
Know this...a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I was DQd from backgrounds from another agency and I don't know why (many, unlike CHP, keep you in the dark). Was this it? One can only imagine.
And if you're thinking I'm sure to get nailed for being clueless about personal finances...my now ex-husband dealt with ALL finances, including taxes/W-4s. To the point where he got REALLY mad at me for writing the check for the phone bill about a month into our marriage (Fellow divorcees will understand what I mean with these petty control issues).
And for any future applicants reading this...get something from what I've posted. Read between the lines. I originally just wanted to be a cop (didn't care where), but the untimely death of one of those young gymnasts gave me CHP blinders...like she's my guardian angel leading me to the right department!! CHP was the ONLY department to mention that Social Security is a valuble resource... when I took my CHP written, an officer said before the test that if ANY discrepency was found in our background, we'd be called on it. In a room full of shuttering applicants, I was thinking 'good, finally a department that's up-front rather than leaving applicants in the dark!' I attend a JC AJ program full of fellow students (and sadly, instructors) who laugh at me when I say it's CHP or bust, but I'll have the last laugh...I'll be with the department that has proven to me that they don't just talk the talk, they walk the walk...INTEGRITY!!!

Oh, also to future applicants...as you know, the hiring process is VERY competitive. At the PAT, you'll meet loads of great people, but you'll keep this mental distance because it's a competition. I met this one guy who would NOT leave me alone (too much flirting on his part...NOT the time & place, especially after I mentioned that I'm commited as much to my boyfriend as he is to moving wherever CHP sends me out of the academy..ikk!) Anyway, this guy was telling me how he used to be a figure skater and that he also coached, and he was worried that they'd him as a "fag," so he planned on leaving that off his work history.
Well...obviously he wasn't anyone's competition for the job!!!!!!
a) severe lack of self-confidence. QAP will see that instantly.
b) he's leaving out a job????????????????????? And he's justifying it??????????????? OUCH!
c) Thinking the department will see a male figure skating coach as a 'fag' (HIS words...I've known many wonderful , happy homosexuals) to me shows prejudice even if it's reverse prejudice. CHP doesn't hire prejudiced types.

Yeah, I know this process is VERY competitive. But to me, out of thousands of applicants (such as me), if you've sought out this fourm, you're trying to improve your knowledge. AND I've met several fellow applicants here who I would be happy to work alongside in such a dangerous job!

pupdog,
does it really take about 6-8 weeks to get a work history report from the social security administration? If so then I'm in trouble because I havnt even gone to get it! I thought it was instant just like the DMV paperwork. I did actually go to the local office(after presidents day) and the line was out the door and the guard at the door told me the wait was hours so I left. I guess I had better hurry and head back there and request this report!

Ace, I went to the Social Security office and paid the fee for the work history report. I waited there for over 2 hours but I walked out with the report. I handed it to my BI this morning actually. My suggestion would be to go to the SSA website, find your local office and try to make an appointment. The people that had an appointment this past Thursday when I went were able to go straight to the front of the line. Making the appointment should save you some time.

If you show up at an office then they will be able to print one out for you instantly, just like the DMV does with the H-6. Six to eight weeks are if you decide to mail in a request, which I do not recommend.

Unless I'm mistaken, I did what SuperTrooper did. But there wasn't a fee. I asked for an informal work history. They asked why and when I said it was for the CHP (as they told us to say at the info sessions), they printed it and handed it over.

Thanks to everyone for the help. And I am really glad that I can get one of these reports right away! I thought I was gonna have to go there tomorrow and wait in line! Now I will just make an appointment and get it later. Anyone from the southern division out there? I finally have my PHS done and will drive down there tomorrow to personally turn it in.

depends. my husband's was longer than yours and while we were prepared to pay the whatever amount per year fee, when he told them what it was for, they gave it to him for free. this was in hawai'i.

i will NEVER understand why people lanesplit. life should be more valuable than those few extra minutes you save.

it is very simple to understand

first off i probably saved a good hour or more the other day by lanesplitting, but...

lane splitting is safer then sitting in traffic. on a bike we have very little protection and when sitting in traffic that means that if the person behind you decides to not pay attention then you are going to be creamed and have no bumpers soaking up the impact. saw a motorcylist dead on the 10 last week, he was rear-ended. NOW there is a diffrence between lanesplitting and being a stupid biker that gives the rest of us a bad name. you have to pay attention and watch your speed. if you do that it really isn't that bad. i don't get many chances to split, but when i do i think of it as a challenge and fun.

P.S. CHP motor officers lanesplit also

I sell on eBay for a hobby, so would I need to list it. About 1 year ago I made good money off it like $2,000 for selling junk, but it was just a hobby.

Thats not a job. Thats like selling your own personal stuff by placing an ad in the recycler. I trade on ebay too but since I am selling my own personal stuff (stuff that I bought myself), I don't call that "income" so I dont think it needs to be listed. On another topic, I am with you FORCE. I ride a 2005 Honda RC51 and a 1999 Kawi ZX9R and have been riding for a really long time. If I did not lane split on my way back from say Oxnard at 3 o'clock in the afternoon on a weekday, I would never make it home before dark. Thats a perk of riding a motorcycle and I also ride in the HOV lane ALONE! It just started raining so it looks like I wont be riding my bike down there to turn in the packet:sad:
