Rumor has it...
Check out this link for a glimpse at the California Highway Patrol car #29 which will be running (?) at the Nascar/Sprint Cup Toyota/Save Mart 350 race in Sonoma on Sunday June 22. If it happens, watch the action on TNT.

It's the #28 car of Kvapil! That would be awesome! It would only be better if it were the #88 running it instead...

Aw, that's just a paint job. Here's a REAL CHP car (not mine!) at the race track:

I went to the Long Beach Grand Prix this year. There was a car like that in the race but on the door decal, it said "Drift Patrol". On the back, I believe it said "Highway Patrol", but it looked like CHP though just like the car in the post above this one.

Oh here it is. I just found it.

National television exposure on an event watched by large numbers. If it gets us the numbers needed to consider a large pool of applicants then it's worth every cent. It beats spending the money on bottle openers.

An MIS has gone out from the CHP and here's the press release on the Team Yates Racing website regarding the CHP sponsorship of car #28 at this weekend's Nascar race in Sonoma...

Car looks good, however I would change two things. I would move the CHP letters on the hood to the trunk lid. On the hood I would have a large version of the door decal your real patrol cars have.

Yeah but don't most people (including tv cameras) focus on the front area of the car during a race.. you know the hood and the driver side?

I'm just imagining the thoughts of the other racers coming up on the the car seeing the words "HIGHWAY PATROL" on the back end, then hesitating for a split second while looking at the speedometer thinking to themselves, should I pass? haha

Also, the A/B bars on CHP patrol cars are black not white. I think a white door and roof would look best.

On a road course that car will be seen from every angle on TV. Truth be told unless the car runs in the top fifteen most of the day it won't see a lot of screen time.

Oh yeah, one more decal change....the numbers on the doors would look better outlined in gold.

"Recruiting budget?"
Bet I could train lots of dispatchers on that budget. Sorry for the negative comments but we were informed yesterday that the only way our new dispatchers can go to training is if they pay their own way. That is 15 nights in a hotel, meals, mileage, etc. And then get reimbursed when the budget is signed. Don't know about them-but I couldn't afford it. Oh, and there's no money to train our trainers...That's it, I'm done venting!:tape:

California Highway Patrol will sponsor No. 28 and Travis Kvapil at Sonoma
CONCORD, NC (June 17, 2008) --- Yates Racing announced today that the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will serve as the primary sponsor of the No. 28 entry with driver Travis Kvapil for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway on June 22nd. The No. 28 California Highway Patrol Ford will feature a paint scheme similar to that of the CHP's patrol cars along with the website www.chp.ca.gov (http://www.chp.ca.gov/).
"I think this is a very cool sponsorship for us this weekend," stated Kvapil. "The California Highway Patrol (CHP) works to keep everyone in California safe and I'm honored that they chose to partner with out No. 28 Yates Racing team this weekend at Sonoma. I'm really looking forward to making them proud, as well as the state of California proud, on Sunday with our No. 28 California Highway Patrol Ford. The paint scheme for our car this week is very unique and we hope to provide the CHP with a solid performance at our first road-course race of the season."
"The goal of this unique one-race sponsorship is to help publicize the California Highway Patrol and the career paths that are available to those qualified candidates interested in a career in law enforcement," said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow.
Kvapil is currently 18th in the driver point standings for the Sprint Cup series as he enters this weekend's race at Infineon Raceway. The Cup series race at Sonoma will be broadcast on TNT Sunday, June 22nd with television coverage beginning at 3:30 pm EST and radio coverage provided by PRN.
The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security to the people of California

About the California Highway Patrol
The California Highway Patrol was established in 1929 by the California State Legislature. Since then, the CHP has built a history of service and tradition that has made it one of the leading law enforcement agencies in the world. At the time of its creation, the CHP was given the authority and responsibility to enforce traffic laws on county and state highways. This authority continues, but today the duties of a CHP Officer have extended well beyond what the State Legislature of 1929 could ever have imagined. Since our inception in 1929, almost 19,000 officers have proudly represented the CHP in serving the people of California.

Currently the Department has approximately 7,050 uniformed officers
Primary duties of a CHP Officer include issuing traffic citations, arresting alcohol and drug impaired drivers, investigating traffic accidents, vehicle thefts, and providing assistance to the motoring public.
Special assignments include motorcycle patrol, canine narcotic enforcement, commercial vehicle inspection, fixed wing or helicopter operations, horseback or bicycle patrol, S.W.A.T., Auto Theft Investigators, Computer Crimes and Dignitary Protection.
The assignments in the CHP are as diverse as the state itself.
