I finally scheduled my first ride along. Im going on March 4th, during the B Watch. I will doing my ride Along out of the Santa Ana office. I'm so excited, hopefully I go with an officer that doesn't mind having ride alongs.

I wonder how that works. Does a ride-a-long get appointed to an Officer by his/her supervisor or is it one of those "your up" deals?

Usually an officer will volunteer or its whoever is not down a bunch of paper. You dont want a ride along watching someone typing all shift.

Our ride alongs usually go with the junior officer on the shift. Seniority does have some benefits!!!

For my first ride along they gave me the rookie. He was there for a year. I started at 9pm and finished at 4am. It was very fun. We got to go to Hooters and investigate a guy who was harassing the waitresses. They guy was staying at the hotel across the street from October to April! When he recieved the call to go there he said I would enjoy this one.

I just got a call back from Altadena and they won't let me go because they want me to pass the written first. He said every department is different when it comes to ride alongs.
