What is the current law with open containers in SUVs? I don't mean like actually drinking the booze, but for example, if you had a half-empty bottle of wine or hard liquor in the back of an SUV (trunk area), is that legal? I ask because some friends and I were staying at a hotel down in SD and we had half a bottle of Grey Goose left the next morning. We didn't want to waste it, so I planned on taking it home with us, and put it in the trunk (nobody drinking it in the passenger area, obviously). One of my friends protested, saying that it was completely illegal to do that in CA. I know in Florida it would have been legal, but not too sure about CA.
