ok so we all know the generic rule 20/40 or better uncorrected or 20/20 only w/ contacts and lasik surgery after a year. There are so many if and buts and q's, DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHO I CAN CALL other than the recruitment line. For example doctors that work for the CHP, that I can ask medical questions about???

Thanks. Appreciate it. I hope he gives me some hope. It would be pretty dissapointing if i coulnt get on because of 10/20's of an eye sight!!!

I am going to go to the doctors before my PAT and get my eyes checked again. I currently wear contacts, but i have for about 8 years. I need to make sure my eyes are 20/20, or damn near close!

yeah you do. I went to the doc yesterday and my vision is not less than 20/40, which i miss by a hair. Even if i waited one year with contacts he said that my eyesight will not be 20/20, so yeah i need to figure something out, because there is no way I'm letting go of this department because of how close my eye sight is to what they need it to. GOOD LUCK!

If you can't get to 20/20 with contacts, try LASIX. I had it two years ago and when it was done, I found myself thinking "Why the hell did I wait so long?" I debated doing it for three years...:shock:ops:

I spoke with the doc and he said i have astigmatism so my eyesight can not be 20/20 with contacts or lasik, however he said I MIGHT with hard contact lenses, but i can't use them any way so im still mad. I mean honestly 20/20. 20/25 what the huge diff? I understand they have to be strict and picky but when the lack of a little bit of good eye sight does not out weight the other qualities a candidate had then what are they really thinking?

Just do your best to read the charts. I don't think it will be such a big deal. I found squinting your eyes a little and using clear eyes boost your vision a little. Oh and give you eyes plenty of rest before the test, so take out your contacts if you have them.

Exp.Lt.,
I had 20/55 on my last Dr. visit in December. I had LASIK done in January. Now I am at a 20/15 in each eye and 20/10 combined. I had a very bad astigmatism in both eyes and that was all corected with the treatment.
I would say o for it. I do not regret it.
Cheers!
