View Full Version : Another Cadet
I just wanted to say in another year or so, I may have another cadet!!! My younger son did a ride along, and while he is seriously involved with joining another profession, he is now thinking CHP sounds like his cup of tea. His biggest issue has always been he doesn't want to be in a job where he does the same thing everyday, and seeing a night in CHP life, he is reconsidering.

Good for him, good for you, and good for the CHP!

it's contagious! but there are worse paths to follow! congrats, mom.
my husband was a nuclear engineer before the chp. it takes all kinds! he didn't want the day-in, day-out sort of job, either. i balked at the cut in pay, but it hasn't turned out to be as bad as i had expected.

I was in the same boat. As a teenager I was a San Bernardino Sheriff explorer for 6 yrs or so and that's all I wanted to be. But once I got stationed out here and did a ride-a-long with the CHP, I was hooked. The officer who I road with has now become a good friend of mine.
He treats me like a rookie. He expects me to know what is going on around us, what the dispatcher is saying (to a certain degree), why we should or should not stop a vehicle, and what to look for. The other officer's I have gone out with are the same way. I am truly grateful for them and all they have taught me. (And for this forum of course)
