I love listening to CHP and travel alot scanning.

I have noticed that many stations have the mobile units broadcast sent through the base repeaters.

Can anyone tell me why just some divisions do this and others do not?

Is this a practice that will spread to the remaining divisions who still use the seperate Base & Mobile Freqs?

Thank you

Mark

Be safe out there guys!

Some divisions have been retrofitted with the radio equipment for it, others have not yet. It's a HUGE improvement in the quality of radio reception in the field, and hopefully they'll be able to retrofit the remaining divisions soon. The difference is unbelievable.

I believe that's the plan, although I haven't seen a hard timetable for it. Just to clarify, though - the separate Base & Mobile frequencies are still used - the traffic is just "repeated" from the remote antennae rather than being brought in via landline.

I posted this link in one of the scanner threads... http://www.freqofnature.com/index.php?m=California&p=Cal%20Highway%20Patrol At the bottom it lists the frequencies that are repeated.
