For all those who are interested I will tell my story. My father is a CHP officer as well as my grandfather(retired). As a kid growing up I would of told you I would never be in law enforcement. Because of this mentality I made some bad decisions during my adolasent years (drugs). Well after highschool I started looking for a carrear and come to find out the CHP looked like the perfect job for me. In 2006 I decided that I would give the CHP a shot. I applied to the CHP and passed the written, PAT, and then took the psychological. Well I soon found out that some things I had done in high school were now going to prevent me from joining the CHP. :hitwall:I dropped out and decided that if I couldn't go into the CHP then I would get my college degree. By the way I just want to mention how embarressing it is to have to tell your family that you were going to be DQ'd for drug use. It truley is one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made.
In February of 2008 I re-applied to the CHP thinking that sufficent time had passed (for my high school mistakes). I went through the whole process and even made it to the background investigator. Well come to find out not enough time had lapsed between my drug use and the written test, therefore I was automatically DQ'd. The background investigator told me that they should of cought me during the oral board. Well as you could imagine I was extremely dissapointed, but that would not stop me from trying to get in. I talked to an officer who informed me that sufficient time had now passed, and he told me to reapply. Well in May of 2008 I graduated with a bachelors degree in criminology (emphasis in law enforcement) and I am ready to give it another shot.
Now just to set the record straight I am actually not a bad kid. I know the drug use thing looks bad, but in all truthfullness that is the worst thing I have done. I have only received 1 speeding ticket & never been in any trouble with the law. I am now married and have a good job with the state. Anyways I just wanted to clear my name a bit. Alright well I hope you enjoyed hearing my story it truly has been a rollar coaster ride with the CHP. I hope one day I can follow in my familys footsteps and become a third generation CHP officer.
Hey... at least you get to try again. Well thanks for sharing, good luck to you!!!

Now there's a great idea. Take a kid who is already having problems and beat them into submission. That always works.

Good luck to you. It appears you have done all that you can do to appease te Gods and make your amends for past indiscretions. You need to use your positives to offset your negatives. If asked, discussed your stupidity of youth and what has been done to create the new you.
By the way, get rid of using "would of", "could of", and "should of"; they are would have, could have and should have. Just a little hint to proper grammar.

Wow and I thought going through the process 3 times was tough. You are making applying to the CHP a career. Well I wish you luck on what looks to be your 5th time through.
Thanks for sharing your story. That took courage. But more than that, when the CHP told you no - you kept on moving, went to work for state and got a BA degree. That is determination. You will make it. Don't give up. I am sure your family is very proud of you now and when you finally get in and they stand there watching you graduate they will know a COUPLE THINGS 1) one mistake does not make a criminal 2) perserverance comes in all kinds of packages 3) dreams never die. Pls let us all know what happens with your application. Some people get stopped cold in their tracks for life because they become victims of their own actions. You did not, you let yours motivate you. Bravo  Hang in there. I for one , am rooting for you.

Wow , thanks for the support. I really do appreciate all the responses. I can honestly say that the last 2 years have been dedicated to better myself for the CHP. After waiting all that time I am really looking forward to the PAT, psych, and oral board this weekend. After completing this process twice before I feel like a vet. Although I know there are others who put me to shame.(lutherm) Hopefully this will be the last time through this process. Again thanks for all the support.

HEY GOINFORTHETRIFACTA
THERE IS NO SHAME ON GOING THROUGH THIS FOR THE THIRD TIME. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME GOING THROUGH THE CHP PROCESS. JUST A LITTLE NERVOUS BUT IM GOOD. I HAVE A FEW THINGS THAT MAY QUALIFY ME FOR THIS JOB, SUCH AS SCHOOL DEGREE,MILITARY AND BILINGUAL. I BEEN IN 2 RIDE ALONGS AND 2 OF THE CHP OFFICERS TOLD ME I SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING IN, BUT YOU KNOW HOW THAT GOES...A FEW MONTHS AGO I APPLIED FOR A SHERIFF DEPT IN WHICH I RANKED 2ND IN THE OVERALL PROCESS. I WAS DQ'd IN MY BACKGROUND. SEE, IVE HAD A LOT OF JOBS, MOVED AROUND ALOT. CURRENTLY OWE LIKE 5,000 IN CHILD SUPPORT WHICH I BEEN TRYING TO PAY AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, HAVE A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMPLAINT AGAINST ME IN WHICH I WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY ON A JURY TRIAL BECAUSE SHE LIED. SO THE BI TOLD ME THAT IVE HAD TOO MANY JOBS,AND THE FACT THAT THE DOMESTIC WAS THERE, IT CAN BE AN ISSUE LATER FOR THE DEPT.:noidea: SO I DONT KNOW WHICH ONE OF US IS WORSE..:lol:HAHAHA
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION, SO KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND KEEP GOING
