Fellow CTC-III-08 cadets (hopefully), watch The Academy 2 (on channel 190, Dish Network). I know it's the LASD and not the CHP, but it provides some insight of what's going to be like at the CHP academy. It's on all day today.
Post on here the day you get your invitation letter. Good luck guys! :smile:

I know it's not the CHP, but I thought it was interesting to see the fundamental aspects of how things are conducted at an academy. :lol::smile:

The officers at the PAT brought up that show and said it is crap compared to the CHP academy.
Not an officer, and only a Mom. But, I have had several family members recently go through the academy. While I enjoy watching The Academy, from what I know of the CHP academy, they aren't anything alike. One major difference, that sometimes would seem like it isn't that big of a difference, but it truly is, is the fact that they go home at night. The stress doesn't continue thru the night. You get to go home, see family, study, relax, etc... Other than that, everything else is different too.

I am currently in CTC II-08 -- I too have watched The Academy. Times that by ten and you have the CHP Academy...on a good day. Can't believe its been a month already! Week 5 here I come!

Not sure if you will be able to see this before returning, but is there a reason why we haven't seen any cadet blogs created of your classes progress?

If I was LASO, I would be ashamed of what their academy looks like on TV. The CHP academy is much different, at least when I went through. LAPD is much like ours, at least when my dad went through. I would have thought LASO would be much different than what they are showing.
Some of the folks LASO had on the first season of their show would not have even made it to my academy class.

I have watched the Academy many times over the past year, all law enforcement should be ashamed of what is being portrayed on that show. The public only sees what is being given to them, and the general consensus of what they see can't be good. I can only imagine what criminals are thinking watching these shows.:doh: I love how they like to make a cute little story out of every episode, for example the couple who started dating during the Academy and are ever so cute while studying and flirting with each other during class,:rolleyes: or the other couple who got married on the show. :doh: ok.. ok.. I digress... Sorry again:tape:

I'm sure, like other "REALITY" shows this is edited to look entertaining, but some of these folks just amaze me. I actually e-mailed the show asking about their recruits being "Older" and was advised that they have to take them. Hopefully the BG's get a false sense of security and will let their guard down and give our side a leg up!

Haven't you guys and gals learned not to believe everything you see on TV? I am in week 11 of the Academy and trust me, that show does not even show you the half of it. Plus, my Black Monday was 10X worse than their's was. I'm sure the CHP Academy is tough but don't knock LASD before you try it. Sorry, rant over. Stay safe people!

What has been said (from my opinion of what I read here) is that what is portrayed in the show Academy is not comparable to the CHP academy. One person posted to watch it to get an idea of what the academy will be like, and most have simply said the 2 are not similar or that it doesn't portray LASO in a positive light.
I do know in the new season, the class Sgt is a 48yo, which wouldn't be found at the CHP academy.

People, you guys are acting like I don't know that I'm talking about. I started this post for the "youngins" who has no idea how the CHP academy is.
I KNOW IT'S NOT THE CHP, AND I DIDNT' EXPECT "THE ACADEMY 2" TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE CHP.
I agreed, that the CHP has the hardest academy. I just wanted to let those that are unaware or have no idea how it is like to get some insight of how it is. We all know it's not comparable to the CHP. Whether the CHP is it's 10x or 100x harder than LASD show "The Academy 2" it does provide some insight of how it is. I know we all are proud of the CHP and it's training, but know this, I too know that it's not the same. =) :lol::lol::lol:

Another thing, I record all the shows and watch it over and over not to compared it to the CHP Academy, but because I CAN'T wait to get in, so I watch it over and over because I am anxious for the academy. Just like some of you who check this site day in and day out, I too can't wait for the academy. That's it, :smile::smile::smile:

I like watching "Real stories of the Highway patrol" to get into the zone. :smile: It comes on 5 times a day on the same channel as the Academy. Sure some officers might exaggerate situations a bit because they know they have a camera following them, but it’s still a good thing to watch for a general idea.

It seems to me that unless you have attended the CHP academy, you don't have any idea what you are talking about. If CHP Officers are telling you that the show is dissimilar to the CHP Academy, then that's how it is.

I got to see the trailer for "CHiPs The Academy", and all I can say about that is, there is a reason the LASO Academy made it on TV. Ours was horrible and did nothing as far as actually portraying academy life. You have to remember-it is TV, and there is no such thing as "reality TV". It's ALL staged!

Well, FEZ from "That 70's Show" is supposed to play Ponch in the new CHiPs movie, so we'll all get to see what it's really like!:lol:
I believe LASO is as hard as LAPD, which is as hard as CHP, it's just that The Academy doesn't show what it's like at all. I actually feel sorry for the LASO folks as they have to go home at night, so they lose time driving to the academy, driving home, and driving to the range, so they don't actually have as much time to study as CHP cadets do. To a certain extent, the other two academies would actually be harder because of the time they lose!
I'll still stick with ours as one of the best in the country, but as a recruiting type of show, The Academy sure wouldn't do it for me!

HAHAHAHA!! You guess crack me up. I don't care who's academy is harder or not. I don't care if "The Academy 2" is anywhere close to what the CHP Academy has to offer. I just wanted to let the newbies know about that show so they can watch it before they get their chances of the real CHP Academy. Yes, I also watch the "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol" too because I am so anticipating to go in the academy.
All I'm saying is.....watch it if you like, turn your TV to another channel if you think it's so fake and has nothing close to what the CHP Academy. THANK YOU! LOL. :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

OK, so maybe he didn't articulate his post as clearly as some would have liked but he makes a simple suggestion and everyone starts jumping down his throat, including some who really have no basis to make a comparison. Really, none of us have a basis to make a comparison unless you have attended both Academies. Just as there are some of their cadets who would not survive our Academy, there are some of ours who would not survive theirs. They are both different for a reason.
All of these negative comments do nothing to promote a good working relationship between both agencies and can only harm the relationship with other agencies and we could do without that.
