YOU ALL ARE RIGHT!!! Iam sorry if I offended any of you! You all made me think about what I wrote and yes I was arrogant in saying what I said! The more and more I think about it we all do our best and yes a 85 shouldnt be put down simply because it is a 85! We are all qualified in our own unique ways and shouldnt be put down just because of a one time score from a 30 min. interview.. I suck at interviews and some people are great at them! Once again Iam sorry for my being rude about what I wrote I didnt mean it to be mean I just kinda spoke befor really giving any thought... I guess I was jelous in alot of ways and I would be proud to work along side anyone who graduates wether they got an 65-75-85-95... Because once we all graduate those scores mean nothing and we all put in out time, blood, sweat and tears into the job and hireing process and we are all a family once those badges are pined on our chests... Once again SORRY to all who I offended I wasnt thinking about the whole picture... =(

i know that a 95 is perfect, but do many people get a 95? Should i be planning to wait a while to to hear from the BI?

Great job! I got my score from valley division 1/28, submitted my packet a week later, and have yet to hear back. I think it's the norm to wait a bit though, Pupdog has been waiting for an initial for about 10 years now I think

we don't submit the packet until they ask for it right?

Weird, I got my commitment to hire in the mail today along with QAP letter. I scored an 85. My deadline to submit my PHS with everything else is March 1st.

Got my QAP score today as well as a commitment to hire! I only got an 85 though but I guess thats not as important as that commitment to hire letter that came as well. Thank goodness I started filling out that PHS! Does anyone know if we can turn in these documents in person?

I'm going to on Monday.

I think that is the best bet. I would hate for these to get "lost" in the mail or have another postal worker go postal and delay the mail!

Yes you can turn it in yourself. I would actually recomend you do that so you don't hae to worry about it being lost in the mail.

Congrats to those who passed the QAP.

I turned in my PHS the first week of January. I was going to be out of town the week it was due so I finished it over the wekeend and sent it FedEx to arrive before the due date. Had I been in town, I would have delivered it in person though.

Good luck!!

Is that true? I just assumed that 100 would have been the max. So, if someone has veterans benifits, and a top score on the interview, they get 105?

95=100% so with a ten point verteran add on you could get a max of 105

I'm sure that most of you have done so, but make a copy of your PHS before you send it off. And when you make updates, update the copy. You never know what might happen, and to have to remember all of the information again is not an easy task.

Their taking 85's now???? WOW... It took me 4 times to get through the process I scored a 90, 90, 90, and then a 95!!! I dont even know what to say to that...... Now their taking 85's!! oh brother... makes you think of how low their willing lower the standards of the CHP.... I think that is kinda unfair to all the others who recived many, many 90's and even 2 1/2 years ago befor the freeze they were taking only 95's and even getting a 95 wasnt garenteed since they had so many 95's at the time... I had a buddy who scored a 95 and was never picked up and eventually got on with a sheriff department.... Let's just say another great candidate lost... sad day for the CHP taking 85's... Befor you know it they will be just like LAPD taking 70's...

was this really called for!!! their are people on this site who scored an 85 and all you can do is complain about it. i understand your frustration and it does suck for you, but this is how things happen. putting other people down isn't going to change that.

The demand for officers is there, and the supply for 95's isn't. Just because an applicant gets an 85, and another a 95 doesn't mean one is more, or less than the other. Were you better when you got that 95 mace, than those 3 times you got a 90? You were just as qualified, it's just that at the time 95 were only being taken, so you had to re-take it untill you nailed it. Some people get lucky, some people don't. You adapt and overcome to the card that is delt to you. As soon as my buddy turned 21, there was a hiring freeze, and there was nothing he could do, but waitit out. Now he's in the academy and is graduating in a couple months. The point I'm trying to make is, weather its an 80 or a 95; if they accept you they accept you and you move on; and there is no reason to put those who got 80's down.

I got a 95 on my CHP interview.

I also interviewed with the San Francisco PD and got 550 points ... and 700 was the minimum for passing. Interview scores aren't everything. I honestly thought I was more cut out for SFPD because of my background and experience. And I didn't realize until reading this thread that I got a perfect score for my interview with CHP. The interviews were no more than a month apart. I'm the same person.

P.S. A Captain with SFPD told me of a large looming crisis of people retiring. In the next 5 years he predicted 1/3 of the department turning over - about 700 officers. And they are already hundreds of officers short. I've heard the same news with the local Sheriff's department in my county (Sonoma). And I'm sure CHP is also riding the crest of this high and magical personnel wave.

Just because you got 85 doesn't mean your not qualified. It is just a interview.

Remember, it's got a LOT to do with your ability to think on your feet (or at the QAP, think in the hot seat). If an officer cannot think on their feet, it could cost someone, most likely themselves, their life. In my 1st QAP, I crumbled BAD. As badly as I wanted to continue in the process, deep down I would have been disappointed with the CHP if I had. If I messed up so bad in front of a panel who is interested in hiring me, how would I be on the street dealing with a knucklehead? I'd be DEAD!
I did recieve a 'passing' 80 on that QAP. Clearly a message from the panel to try again and not give up. I did not give up, and got a 95 the next time:biggrin:

They scored it a little differently in olden times, but I got (with my veterans points) over one hundred every time I took the test. That was and still is a very high score. However as I have said before on here it took me four tries to make it all of the way through every hurdle (background, QAP etc.). Bottom line...I was a little to immature and ignorant for the job when I was in my early twenties, not to mention arrogant.
I worked with a lot of people who are not as "book smart" as I am and guess what, a lot of them were better officers than I was.

The scores don't matter. I didn't perform to the best of my abilities on my QAP because I was extremely nervous, but the panel was still impressed with my knowledge of the department and overall liked what I had to say. They gave me an 85 knowing full well I was going to be moving along in the process. They could of just as easily given me an 80.

Mase, I think that you have it all wrong! I received an 85 on my oral interview and got a commitment to hire letter. I have a friend who received a 95 and another who received a 90 on the interview and they have not received a commitment to hire letter. I think that they sometimes base it on your life experiences. Im 24years old, i have been married once (divorced now), i have a bachelors degree, i coach children in soccer, i am part of a non-profit organization that helps our community, i do not have military experience but considering to join the Marines (it all depends on how things go with the CHP. The bottom line is that i am an active person. I received a 95 on my interview with the LAPD, passed the border patrol interview (the most stressfull interview i have taken), and passed other interviews with out any problems and good scores. There is a lot of things that come into role when you take an interview, your appearance, posture, ect..... The easiest interview that i have had was with the CHP, but i received an 85, it bugged me for a while, but i finally understood that the interview does not determine how good of an officer i will be. Some people are good in interviews some are not! I am just as qualified as anybody to do the job, so don't bring people down, just because you think 85's are an exception. It took you three times to score a 95 it might only take me one more time to score a 95. Well i think i have said enough, have a nice day.

Sorry i forgot one more thing,
The CHP likes people who are involved with their community. My other two friends who scored a 90 and 95, have no involvments with the community, no education, no military background, and they are still waiting for the commitment to hire letter. Mase, you need to watch what you say, don't be a hater....

Life's not fair. Working in law enforcement is even less fair. And by the way, your buddy with the 95 would have been picked up had he given it time. We've always moved 95's+ on to backgrounds so either he was impatient or was disqualified later in the process.

Just because we're accepting lower QAP scores to move on in the hiring process does not mean we are lowering the standards across the board. We still hold you to the same standards and expectations in the background process not to mention the Academy. We're simply giving those who got a lower score a chance to move on to the next step -- it doesn't mean they're in.

We are all going to have to go to the same academy, and learn the same things.

Yea geeze thanx dude! You know I really tried really hard at this interview but what can I say? This was my first time at it and maybe if I had to do it 4 times like you, then I might score a 95! Sorry I scored an 85. Difference between you and me is that I got a commmitment to hire on my first try. Might be because of my timing and because the department is hiring like crazy right now. But I would like to hope its not because the department is lowering their standards! Im not an idiot and dont want to be labled as one simply because my interview score was 5 points lower then your lowest of 4 interviews!
