I got DQ'd on my final interview. Is there a certain amount of time I need to wait until I can apply again? My BI told me I should reapply but didn't state how long I need to wait if at all. Is there anything bad that can happen if I apply too soon? Just so it's out there I received my DQ for being written up at my previous job 8 years ago for being tardy, he said my QAP score was invalid because of it. I didn't remember it at the time and didn't tell the QAP board.

I'd reapply right away. Time usually cures most problems but if you're being completely honest about the reason for this DQ then apply immediately. When you do your next QAP make sure and disclose EVERYTHING. The issue this time wasn't the fact that you were written up 8 years ago; the issue was that you failed to tell the panel. I supervised backgrounds for 4 years so my guess is that there was more than this one reprimand issue. Like I said, apply again and disclose EVERYTHING. Remember, the next time you apply and go to the QAP you'll be asked how many times you've applied with the CHP or another law enforcement agency. Don't forget the DQ. They'll also ask if you were ever DQ'd. You'll need to say yes. I'd make sure and chat with the background investigator to verify the reasons you were DQ'd. If you tell the panel it was for one reprimand 8 years ago and the next background investigator reads the investigation and learns differently, you'll be dumped again.

Good luck.

Thank you for the information. I am going to reapply right now. My BI was really nice about the entire process and his words were "It hurts me to disqualify qualified applicants because they didn't disclose everything, but since you failed to tell the QAP interviewers that you did receive a reprimand it's not fair to other applicants." I am actually requesting all of my personnel files from my previous job so that there are no surprises. This was my first time applying to a LE agency and didn't realise the depth of backgrounds. When they say do a complete background investigation on yourself prior to filling out that PHS they meant it.

You need to wait to re-apply. There is a minor problem with the program we use to track applicants. If you re-apply while your present application is active, your application will be rejected from the system. I would wait a few weeks until your your present testing cycle is closed. That typically happens a day or two after headquarters receives your background. It is best to wait until the week before the final filing date for the division you want to test in and then submit your application.

Oh ok I understand. I reapplied online just a few hours ago, will the system just kick me off the list? I want to make sure I do everything exactly right this time. This seems like a strange question but if I reapplied too soon before the system offically DQ'd my first application does this mean I was DQ'd twice? I want to fill out the PHS next go around leaving nothing to DQ me. I don't want to be DQ'd again because I said on the PHS that I was only DQ'd once.

If you have an active application, the system will simply not accept another application. The system won't DQ you.
