How frequenty does the stations in California take new officers straight from the academy? El centro? San diego? Temecula and Oceanside?

You?re not going to get into to Oceanside for about 3 years, San Diego and El Cajon would be lower. I?ve seen San Diego take a few cadets over time.

Just my view, maybe someone that works in the San Diego office or others can relate.

The San Diego area offices are pretty senior, but you never know when an open position might pop up.

This makes me curious.

My B.I. told me Napa would be next to impossible to get into. (I tried to ensure him it was not so important to me - so I cited other wonderful areas of CA that I'd love to live in, San Diego... or Truckee for example. He laughed.)

So, what other areas are tough to get into? Where does Shasta rank?

Put it this way, you're most likely going to end up in the Bay Area such as Oakland, or somewhere in LA County.

El Centro and San Diego both take cadets occasionally. El Cajon takes them a little less often, but still gets them once in a while. Oceanside hasn't taken a cadet since 1990 (IIRC), and Temecula has never taken one in the history of the Area Office (it opened in 1985).

Marcus - I think you can pretty well count Shasta out. Every so often a freak thing like that will happen, but it's definitely the exception rather than the rule. LA or the Bay Area are both pretty safe bets for at least your first year.

The next 'metropolis' to Shasta...one officer that I did a RA with said he's from Redding, and that it'll take him about 10 years to get home!
I love this state, every inch of it, even if I wind up in the LA area. I've grown up a Bay Area gal, so I consider myself lucky. The only office I DON'T want to work for is Santa Cruz. I love Santa Curz, but being LE over there would be pretty uncomfortable considering my feelings on mj.
During the recruitment talk that changed my life, the recruiter showed us the map with all the divisions & offices. He said 'see that yellow area down there? that's where you'll go!' But, at an orientation in San Jose last summer, we were told to stop turning grey over it, the bay area takes plenty of cadets!

I'd be happy just to have a job. Eat your cake one sitting at a time.
