I wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped me thru the hiring process. I decided to withdraw my application today. I know that the hiring process is a long one but due to the circumstances I decided it was too long for myself. I had to obtain my Series 6 and 63 license for my current job and that takes a seperate commitment in its self. I also did not want the CHP to spend anymore time and money when it could be allocated in other areas.

I turned in my packet on March 10th and still no news in regards to it. I could have planned a little better for the length of time but unfortunatly I was not aware of any delay or informed if there is a delay. I did call a few times to ask the background department if there were any delays to better position myself for the timeframe. I just wish I could have atleast met with my background investigator. I know that I am not the only applicant that was in the background process....but I feel 2 months was too much with no contact. I have discussed my scenario with other CHP and police officers and they all agreed that my feelings are valid. After hearing this I don't feel like such a whiner!!!

So good luck to all and I will proudly support all of you from the sideline.

Thanks again and stay safe,

John

I am sorry to hear that. It can take a while. It was almost 26 months from the day I took my written test to the day I started the Academy. Was it disheartening to wait that long? Yes, it was. Did I ever think about withdrawing my application. NO! It is a long hard road sometimes, but it is well worth it.

Good luck with your current career. If you change your mind, the CHP will be here for you.

2 months? Holy cow!! How could anyone wait that long for one of the best jobs out there. I have a degree in finance and was using it before going into the CHP. I can tell you there is no comparison. I guess you didn't really want it that bad to begin with. Good luck in the corporate world.

Hmmmmm. I love sarcasm. It reminds of a satire that I once read.....anyway moving on.

Maybe I should clarify the situation.

It is not that I did not want the CHP job to begin with. I was a Sales Manager for HSBC N.A. for three years. Due to the mortgage crunch and the amount of branches in the area I was given an option of a severence package or take another Manager position with lower base pay. With the severence package I would take a decent amount of cash home after taxes, keep my medical benefits for six months. If I stayed with the company I would take a substantial pay cut and move out of the area. Unfortuntatly due since this move would not be a result of a promotion a relocation packet would not have been offered and HSBC would not buy my house. Bottom-line....I did not want to move so I took the severence.

I was laid off in November of 07 from my old job. With my savings and other means of financial support dwindling down in April of 08 I started to seek other means of income. So, instead of counting on one option I looked for backup options.

My current employer required my to obtain my Series 6 and 63 to continue forth in the company. I stalled for quite sometime in regards to this but unfortunatly I could not anymore. I stalled hoping that the CHP position would open up during this timeframe. Unfortunatly the background took longer than I expected.

Since the CHP job was not guaranteed I felt that this was the best action for my family.

I hope that this posting explains the reason why I pulled out of the process. I suppose I could of let the CHP waste money on putting me thru the entire process when I knew that I would not have taken the appointment anyway.

Two things that I learned from your post:

1. The integrity that I exercised simply gave me a "SURPRISE!" branded on my forehead as I was kicked in a certain delicate spot.

2. The original thank you that I sent out to everyone as a sign of respect...obviously did not go over very well with you.....so my apologies for that.

Thank you for wishing me luck in the corporate world. I will certainly enjoy the great hours and awesome benefits.

Best of luck.

Just because you have to have some income in the meantime does not mean that you need to pull out of the CHP. But like III-05 said, only waiting 2 months and deciding that is too long to wait? People "wait" four year of more during college to get a job that most of the time ends up paying a lot less than the CHP pays. There is nothing wrong with having something to tide you over. Hell, I laid bricks while I was waiting for my backgrounds to clear. But I did not say, they are taking too long, I am going to do something else. Put your app back in and see where it takes you. But also realize that it is a hard road. If you back out after only 2 months, then maybe you did not have what it takes to make it through academy and onto the road.

:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

Nevermind.

A simple thank you has turned into an argument that was not intended.

I should have just applied earlier.

I'm sure this was a difficult decision and you put great thought into it before making a decision. Good Luck!!

I'm sure this was a difficult decision and you put great thought into it before making a decision. Good Luck!!Agreed. Give the guy a break. Clearly this is not the right thing for him. Not everyone dreams of being a highwaycop and nothing else; there are plenty of respectable ways to earn a living.

Kudos for realizing this was not for you. Instead of being one who got through the process into the Academy then decided it. I know it must have been a hard decision and as Snowdog and DW said good luck in your future endeavors. Also don't worry about what others post here, you have made the decision thats right for you. Good luck.

I understand why you did what you had to do. I am currently in the military with just about a year left to go. I am almost finished with my Masters degree in a field not related to law enforcement. I have a family to support and timing the hiring process is a big challenge. I will do what I have to do when the time comes, but I will keep the interest of my family in mind the entire way. In a perfect world, i would walk out of the military into the CHP academy. Unfortuantly, there are many variables to be considered and i can't put all my eggs in one basket. I am hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. Good luck in your career.

hfan217: Series 6 and 63 are not that hard to pass. I got them as well as Series 7. 63 is very easy. 6 is little bit harder but still, not that hard. Try to do more mock exams before you take the real one.

Good luck!
