Hi all,

Great forum, I really enjoy this one better than the other.

I have a question regarding transferring. If I remember correctly from the other forum, once out of the academy, a new officer is typically sent to a major metropolitan city. How soon thereafter could one expect to transfer to another city?

How desirable are the Santa Barbara and Ventura counties?

You're required to spend one year (probation) at your initial assignment from the Academy. Once you've successfully completed that probationary period you can submit a transfer request, listing up to three Area Offices you'd like to transfer to. Transfers are primarily based upon seniority, so if somebody senior to you has a transfer in for that Area they'll get it before you do. I don't know anything about Ventura or Santa Barbara counties (other than the fact that the cost of housing is extraordinarily high!), so hopefully somebody who works in one of those areas can help you out with that.

Ventura usally takes anywhere from 2-8 a few times a year. SB takes only 1-2 usually. Not hard areas to transfer to after your initial year though due to the fact you have to make more money than God to buy a house there.

I've seen several cadets go to Ventura and one of my classmates went to Santa Barbara (okay, that was a long time ago but there have been many more since).

CTC I-05 sent a cadet to Ventura and one to Santa Cruz as well. One was even fortunate enough to go to Death Valley.

Yes, I exchanged emails with the new officer who went to DV. I miss that post. Can't imagine going there right out of the Academy though. It's VERY different.
