Congratulations. I still remember the rush I had when I was in your shoes (in 1966).

Keep your eye on the ball........stay focused........never say I can't...........don't quit..........

However hard it is, the end is worth it. You are at the start of a great career that will be satisfying for the next 30 years.....

CTC III-05 graduates on February 24th. CTC IV-05 will have a week to themselves, and then CTC I-06 will start, which should be March 6, 2006.

The classes do get a few days off. Per the MOU, cadets must use 32 hours of CTO while at the Academy and 40 during the week immediately following graduation. This prevents the new officers from showing up to their areas with huge CTO banks. For some classes, the time can be used during a holiday. CTC 4-05 has the 20th off because they needed to burn a day and it worked out for them that it is on a holiday. CTC 3-05 will not be off on the 20th. There is so much to do during the first week that they cannot lose a day. Besides, postponing the start of a new class because of Memorial Day would give a wrong impression about how the Department operates.

Congats !!! You have achieved a great deal getting to this point. Now, set goals as small as they seem. Start the academy, make every week a goal to pass, graduate, make it off break-in, pass the one year probationary period and from there, it's all up to you !!! Thats how I did it and it has worked so far. I recruited (mentored) a good friend of mine and he is also starting March 6th. You should look him up here on the CHPForum, AirborneLEO. You two could try to help each other before and during the academy. We all need friends ! Good Luck and be CONFIDENT, YOU WILL GET THROUGH IT !!!

You're thinking of the Field Training (FTO) period.....probation is one year from date of graduation.

during the academy, my husband's mantra was, "five weeks down, one week to go... six weeks down, one week to go... seven weeks down, one week to go..." he just focused on what was immediately ahead and tried to stay out of the mind-boggling, "wait, this is going to last SIX MONTHS?!" i loved his mindset!

Hmm, I was in the academy from February until August. It just depends on how and who makes the schedule if you happen to get any of the "Federal" holidays off. I even had classes on July 4th, while the junior class did not. Holidays are just another day of the week in this profession, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I got a packet on my doorstep, while I was home, from one of those ninja postal employees. The letter was sent 'overnight', allowing me to give my employer two weeks notice. My faith has been restored. My employer is happy and so am I. :razz:

My timeline now looks like this:

September 15 - received my 'conditional hire' letter
November 8 - first background interview
January 12 - final background interview
The following week I had my medical
January 31 - had my psych
February 17 - Selected for March 6 Academy
