View Full Version : QAP - admitted adrenaline junkie?

I just passed the written exam and am preparing for the QAP. My question is, would it be perceived as a negative trait to self admit to being an "adrenaline junkie" but in a positive light? The only reason it crosses my mind to even bring it up is because that is big reason that I am attracted to CHP in the first place.

It is definitely a positive contributor to my character and life choices and not negative because that is what motivates me to run marathons, ultra marathons, ride motorcycles, wakeboard, not afraid to try new stuff, not afraid of pushing myself, stress, etc. So, if one can acheive the same state of mind/physical being through their job (CHP) then why not get paid for doing what one enjoys and motivates, right? Or, better not to even mention that as a reason for choosing CHP when I have several other reasons of much higher priority?

Thanks in advance for your advise.

As long as your pursuits are legal and you do not make stupid decisions I don't see an issue. A lot of us run in marathons...etc...Now if you trespass and base jump of a tall building then yes there could be issues, but being active and enjoying he outdoors is no big deal. That being said, if you are serious in pursuing this career, you might want to scale back a bit during the testing process. You would not want to get to hurt before going to the Academy. Good luck.

Yes, my pursuits are completely legal and it hasn't been the cause what so ever of stupid decisions, but I was looking at it as more of a positive character trait that will ultimately help me succeed as a cadet and officer over the long haul and duration of my career. It is just a driving force in what I choose to do with my time and interests, example: running vs. crocheting, wakeboarding vs. shopping or going to movies, motorcycle riding vs. bunko or book club - you get the idea. Nothing too extreme either; I have little ones to consider.

Im just an applicant like you...that being said...

I dont see an issue (though you cant compare wake-boarding to shopping)Though I do see your point. Everything you mentioned in your reply sounds fun and there are lots of us here who enjoy those things!

Stay extreme but stay legal and safe.... I call that living life to the fullest!

Good luck to you...

It all depends on how you articulate your definition of an "adrenaline junkie".

Definition 1: I like getting into fights, seeing how fast I can go in a car, see how close I can come to death and stop just before I cross the line.
Definition 2: I like to push myself to the limit in experiencing new adventures.
Make sense?
Good Luck.
