Anyone know how much time cadets have to spend in the pool at the academy?? Not a very good swimmer :hitwall:

I was talking to a cadet (now officer) from a couple classes ago. He said they were only in the pool twice or so.
CHP Explorer is correct that Cadets are only swimming a couple times the entire 27 weeks. Things to change at the Academy (we swam every Wednesday) but that is how it is right now.

I read about jumping off a 5 meter tower. It should be fun, but is it true?

Too bad, I'm much better at swimming than running!
i know i only went a couple times, but it seemed like our seniors were always in there.

I much rather swim, easier on the legs, joints and body. :doubt:

Being one of your seniors.... You are right.. We swam 6 or 7 times that I can recall, still it wasn't all that much.
Whether you like swimming or not, you'll probably like it more than the running.
Don't sweat it though. The pool has a kiddy section.

For me, swimming wasn't that fun. I know how, and love, to swim. But after doing "plyometrics" and then jumping in the pool with spaghetti legs to swim from the shallow end to the deep end, then push-ups, just to do that 5-10 times, just wasn't that fun for me. I'd rather have run the 3 miles.

There were two swimming pools when I was at the Academy, the senior pool and the junior pool. The senior pool was the nice covered inside pool, the junior pool was the sand out on the track obstacle course, so unless things have changed, you'll have lots of time in the junior pool before having to use the senior pool:biggrin::lol::rolleyes::redface:

Yes, you get to jump off a tower. However, for you non-swimmers, life guards (your classmates who can swim well) are posted at the bottom of the pool to drag you back up to the top. Easy money. If you can't swim, you can stay in the shallow end on those rare swim days.

The Alaska State Troopers Academy in Sitka, AK. They do their survival swims in the ocean. Good times...

Absolutely, they will match the life vest they give the non swimmers to swim in an 8 foot deep pool.
