....and glad I no longer work downtown.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush said the U.S.-led global war on terror has "weakened and fractured" al Qaeda and allied groups, outlining as proof new details about the multinational cooperation that foiled purported terrorist plans to fly a commercial airplane into the tallest skyscraper on the West Coast.

"The terrorists are living under constant pressure and this adds to our security," Bush said. "When terrorists spend their days working to avoid death or capture, it's harder for them to plan and execute new attacks on our country. By striking the terrorists where they live, we're protecting the American homeland."

But the president said the anti-terror battle is far from over.

"The terrorists are weakened and fractured, yet they're still lethal," the president said in a speech at the National Guard Memorial Building. "We cannot let the fact that America hasn't been attacked in 4 1/2 years since September 11 lull us into the illusion that the threats to our nation have disappeared. They have not."

Los Angeles skyscraper targeted
Bush has referred to the 2002 plot before. In an address last October, he said the United States and its allies had foiled at least 10 serious plots by the al Qaeda terror network in the last four years, including plans for September 11-like attacks on both U.S. coasts. The White House initially would not give details of the plots but later released a fact sheet with a brief, and vague, description of each.

The president filled in details on Thursday.

He said that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks who was captured in 2003, had already begun planning the West Coast operation in October, just after the September 11, 2001, attacks. One of Mohammed's key planners was Hambali, the alleged operations chief of the al Qaeda related terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah. Instead of recruiting Arab hijackers, Hambali found Southeast Asian men who would be less likely to arouse suspicion and who were sent to meet with Osama bin Laden, Bush said.

Under the plot, the hijackers were to use shoe bombs to blow open the cockpit door of a commercial jetliner, take control of the plane and crash it into the Library Tower in Los Angeles, since renamed the US Bank Tower, Bush said.

Check out this website and then consider the consiquences of this seemingly innocent act by a young Florida student.

Surprise, Surprise

Interesting article......reveals how gullable the media is.

Remember that kid, Farris Hassan, the 16-year-old from Florida, who went to Iraq a few weeks ago to allegedly find out for himself what conditions were like for Iraqis and to satisfy a requirement for this journalism class he was taking?

Remember also how his parents were all distraught not knowing where he was?

Remember how the media lionized him for being so brave?

Would it surprise you to learn that NO NETWORK JOURNALIST took the initiative to do a little research?

Further, would it surprise you to learn that his parents KNEW where he was because they helped him get his ticket?

Would it surprise you to learn that his school has no such journalism class?

Would it surprise you to learn that his parents sent a note to school saying he'd be gone during that period?

Would it surprise you to learn his father was arrested for forging 2,000 Iraqi passports and was probably attempting to forge 2,000 more?

Has it ever occurred to you that the student and his family can really be prospective terrorists in sheep's clothing?

Click in the link above and read all about it because you won't hear it in the network news.

I just tried googling this, and I can't believe nothing came up...

22 years ago, 10 year old Kevin Collins headed home from school, and has not been seen since. I remember this very well, as I was 10 at the time. A few nights ago on the news, there was a story about a man who had applied for a passport using Kevin's name, address, parents names, and SSN. Talk about a sick case of identity theft! I really don't want to come off as prejudiced, as I've known plenty of wonderful people from this neck of the woods, but I did notice that the newscasters were so busy being PC that they didn't mention what was obvious from the crook's name & photo...he was middle eastern.
They also reported that the false identity was discovered only because someone processing the application recognized the name. Hmmm...you mean to tell me the SSN didn't send up a red flag? And they also said he was released on bail. Somehow I don't think they gave the full story, just a version that has maximum appallingness.

Just for fun, I put "Farris Hassan" in my Yahoo search engine and came up with a lot of hits but nothing that explains it like this one did. I don't claim to be a Rush Limbaugh devotee but I am starting to distrust the main stream media more and more. I see liberal leaning, narrow focus, and knee jerk reporting.
I am angry about the way they treat the President. Clinton could do no wrong and Bush can do no right. Clinton takes no vengence on troops being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu and Bush gets maligned for fighting terrorism.

Oh well, I am getting a testosterone rush and at my age that can be dangerous. :biggrin:shock:ubt:
