Finally I got called by my BI and scheduled the initial interview for this thursday. I have been in the process since 2004, took my PAT January 2005. Tested out of border division, patience in this process is a must thats all I can say. But fortunately the time that has passed by I have been preparing for the academy by working out. I worked and saved up enough money so that now I can pay my deliquent credit accounts in full. And have taken financial management classes. Which gives me more confidence going into the Backround Investigation phase. My advice to all applicants is no matter how long it takes, take advantage of the time and prepare yourself for the academy as best as you can.
Wow, 2 years that makes me feel better about the time that I have waited (June 05). Glad to hear you got things back on track, and good luck with the background investigation. Be sure to report back and let us all know it went. Congrats

So it took a year for them to contact you after your PAT, do you remember what your QAP score was?
Good luck to ya

newbie...
are you testing out of southern division?
My QAP was 95, my BI contacted me once in February 2005 telling me that he had my packet, then he called me October last year telling me that he would schedule a initial interview soon, then he called me last week to schedule one.

Wow, I thought I was waiting a long time without a call since getting my 95 in border back in October 05. Doesn't the list only last 2 years? What happens if you expire while still in backgrounds?

I applied back in 2003 before there was a hiring freeze. It wasn't until 2004 of Oct. I went on another ride along and another mock interview to make sure that I was ready. I passed my interview in December of 2004. My BI called me in April of 2005. It took roughly about a month and a half for her to complete my background. Meanwhile, I was working with the United States Forest Service fighting fires. My VSA was in May but I had to postpone because I was constantly being sent to different parts of the West Coast battling these wildland fires. Well, to make a long story short, I missed two academys. I don't want anyone to talk about being impatient because the time will come as did mine. I have my boots and uniform size ready to go. So far, I am scheduled for the March 6 academy. I say so far because who knows if another hiring freeze might just pop-up.

I understand the wait, I just don't want to age out in the meantime. I'm 32. Another freeze could happen, I could not get through this time and have to re-apply, who knows! My boss is pleased as punch because he doesn't want me to leave (he told me yesterday that the 3 most evil letters in the English language are C-H-P!). Great for him, but I there's definitly a higher calling in life for me.

Why is your boss so against Coffee Having Priority?
Oh, nevermind. He must be talking about those cops who Can't Handle Policework.

He doesn't want to lose a great employee. I had only worked there a few weekends when I very abruptly got promoted. I knew squat about bookkeeping, but was able to figure out in a matter of days how the previous manager was really messing this up, and then I had to re-invent the wheel as far as the books are concerned (he says I'm so good at it that I should do his personal finances too! NO THANKS!). Sales have increased. New ideas. Things done more efficiently. My dog keeps deer out of the vineyard. Believe it or not, we have a hard time finding weekend help in the tasting room, so he knows that when I go, he'll have a very tough time finding a replacement (plus nobody but the previous manager had a clue how to do anything, and he doesnt want to be in that situation again. For this, I'm delegating what I can, and writing down procedures).
The winemaker is always telling me that a nice GIRL shouldn't be a cop (does he realize that he's supporting oppression that will have an effect on his own daughter's choices when she grows up?). He says I should stay home, make babies, and learn the wine business. I think he's also really glad to have someone running the business end of things that actually knows something about wine (besides 'it makes me jolly'). Knows how it's made, and actually has an understading of the chemistry behind it. Someone who's pruned a vine. Someone who can punch a cap when he's not around and doesn't mind fire-hosing the pinot juice when he needs another set of hands.
I love my current job, but I never set out for this, and I can't wait to get out of there and get with CHP. Pretty soon I won't be able to go home from work, because I'm moving into the old house on the property. This weekend job has become my home-based business! And I just want to get on with my life!!!!!
