You will lose a ton of weight during training, even "in shape or lean" people will drop some pounds. During my 27 weeks of federal training I entered about 194 and graduated 181.

Throw that crap out and go w/ a balanced diet, LOTS of water, and protein shakes are your best bet. You don't need any other supplements that will raise heartbeat, they will get your heart beating quickly during PT.

Good luck.

Stay away from that stuff, you'll mess yourself up pretty bad. Take it from me, I've tried it all. Check this out...When I graduated from school in Dec 2007, I weighed in at 220 (6'0"). When I started running back in Feb, I was pushing a 15 mile per minute pace!! How horrible is that!? I suffered from back pain, leg pain, muscle pain, everything imaginable. As SweepTheLeg already said: Balanced Diet + Protein Shakes + WATER WATER AND MORE WATER will get you in shape.

Oh btw, I'm running at an 8:30 per mile pace, 200 even, and my legs are stronger than ever! And boy do I feel like a million bucks!! Stay away from all so-called weight loss products, trust me.

Thats impressive, I started at a 15 minute per mile pace.

From what I remember they won't allow it and if they find it, stand by. If your a larger individual, you will lose PLENTY of weight in the academy. Training table chow + lots of water + a small amount of running , you won't have a choice.

Personally I went in at 185 and came out of 185. I did lose fat and gain muscle but my weight didn't change.

Good luck!

My son went in at 215 and came out at about 165.

Training table + Daily Exercise - Snacking = Weight loss

You won't need the hydroxycut there, and to be honest, due to the heart issues associated with it, you do not want to be on it while under the stress of the academy. And I don't think it will be allowed. (If I remember correctly, you have to check in all medications, including OTC. Maybe you didn't, but I thought he had to.)

I'm going to add my two cents worth here. You can take it or leave it. There is something you should consider when contemplating whether or not to take any kind of supplement.

There is no regulation of the nutritional supplement industry and many manufacturers take advantage of this. Americans spend hundreds of millions of dollars each year on supplements where there is little or no scientific evidence to support the claims of the manufacturer. Let the buyer beware is good advice to follow.

In regards to protein....heres the accepted requirement range: .36 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day for sedentary individuals. .6 grams per pound for endurance athletes and .75 grams per pound for strength training athletes.

That said, protein needs can easily be met by a well balanced diet that provides adequate calories. There is little need to spend large sums of money on protein supplements. Many claims of the manufacturers are not supported by published scientific research.

Anyway, take it for what its worth and best of luck!

The only real way to lose weight is through diet and exercise...there is no 'magic pill'. You will get plenty of the above mentioned at the academy and I am sure, like most, you'll drop some weight.

I went in at 12 percent body fat and came out 6 percent. Don't take the hydroxycut while you're there (or before you get there). You'll work so hard and eat so little while you're there that you'll wish you could slow the process down a bit!

Okay, okay... No supplements.

All Hydroxycut is now is a huge shot of caffeine. There is no more ephedra in it which was the real active ingredient a few years back. However just because they lost the true active ingredient doesn't mean they want to lose the profit they were making on the bottles, so don't waste your money.

I'm a powerlifter/ football player for my recreation and have some experience in this. Just judging from Navy boot camp, you will definitely lose weight at the CHP academy from what I have read about their training regime. In fact the running sounds more intense there than it was for me at boot camp.

I see supplements as an easy way out, if one wants to lose weight, then the individual will make the necessary life changes to achieve that goal

Because that is so tough.

You won't need it at the Academy. Gee I wonder what the old timers did in their day when there was no hydroxycut or steroids etc........

Physically for me it was a cakewalk. Mentally I'd say there were aspects that were probably more difficult than the academy will be. Again this is for me. Each is difficult in its own way. Your response is clearly condescending though. Not sure why.

Please fell free to share these thoughts with the staff next month. Especially the PT staff. I'm sure all of those in your company will appreciate it.

Based on the name of the supplement, I'd say it's more of a diuretic than anything else, something that will eliminate water from your body. Less water = less weight. It also equals dehydration, which is something you don't want. As stated above, most supplements are worthless and are not proven to give you any advantage. You're best bet is a well balanced diet and a proper, well rounded, exercise program. When I went through the Academy I weighed something like 170-175 lbs. I wasn't fat, just a little soft around the tummy. When I graduated I weighed 155, and I ate like a pig when I was in the Academy, so don't worry about losing weight.

Your biggest concern, when I went through the Academy we had PT every morning for several hours, with floor exercises and running. The last I heard the Academy couldn't do the 5 mornings a week anymore because it would require overtime pay to get all the hours in, SO, you need to get your rump out of bed every morning and do all the exercises just like it was mandatory. You have to push yourself and the other cadets to do it. If you do, you will be much lighter when you are done.

Stay away from supplements unless told to take them by your doctor and/or a nutritionist.

I'm not one to step out of line with the staff... especially if it will bring extra attention to the rest of the squad.

I guess some assume staff and PT staff don't read here/post here. Or that they (the staff/PT) don't have the investigative skills to determine who is who here...
