I'm volunteer for a local city dept and I was just checking out the CHP 10/11 code considering I've got a final interview coming up and I was wondering how universal the code was. 1 code I know we use is 11-86 for traffic stops but everywhere I've looked for the CHP 11-86 states it's a bomb code. I know there are a couple others just from my brief review. Any particular reason why these vary?

NorCal, as far as I know, 10 and 11 codes are regional. It might depend on the department as well. LAPD and SDPD's codes are different... even the UC and CSU campuses use different codes. UCLA uses LAPD codes and UCSD uses SDPD's.
Some agencies have also gone to the three-digit "9" series codes, which are entirely different from 10 and 11 codes. It isn't even regional - it varies from agency to agency in the same region. SDPD's are different than SDSO's, etc. It would be great to standardize them, but I'd guess that almost every agency would be reluctant to depart from the codes they know and use, and would want the other agencies to adopt THEIR codes.

Look, no agency would want to 10-23 while their 10 and 11 codes are 10-22?d. If that happened, all of the agency?s officers would be 10-7 until they all 11-98 in the classroom to learn the new codes. For some, this class might even occur while the officers are 10-10, and that wouldn?t make them happy? not to mention that the 10-20 of the class might be inconvenient. Fact is, if you make everyone 10-6 trying to re-learn this, the welcoming of the new codes would probably be a little 10-1. So the fact is that they should probably keep the current codes 10-8!!! 10-4?or should I 10-9?
Okay... so i couldn't resist. Part of the bad CHP humor i've developed ever sense i started processing!!

Hold your horses buddy I wasn't looking for it being made universal, just if there was a particular reason for the major differences... Case in point, Agency 1 at a recent event put out a 10-What ever over the radio which to Agency 2 who was helping in A-1 was a Code 3 get there as fast as you can response, while A-2 sped thru town A-1 casually took their time and then looked at A-2 and said "Whats the rush?" I'm not trying to get flammed.

Hey thanks, just took the "look" a little pointedly... All is good! I'll just remember if in my future I am a CHP and near MP that if I hear them say 11-86, not to worry cuse to them it's a traffic stop and to a CHP it's a bomb threat!
