For those of you who have already been invited, and those who hope to be,,,, what sort of training are/have you been doing to get ready? What seems to be working, and not? Looking forward to my invite, and pick up day.
Thanks, and see you all there!

I'm waiting for the go ahead(19 days and counting), I took my medical and psych on the same day.The cadet workout dvd given to me by my B.I. seems very accurate, and I have to admit, the "nose in the ring" exercise is pretty tough. I've been following along for some weeks now, it gives a good idea of what to expect. Then I go to the gym to do some cardio.
It seems to work better for me to run AFTER having done the toning exercises, but thats just me. Hopefully my triceps will build up before the 28th!!!!!

I'm 5'9" @ 200lbs
I have great running endurance and can do push-ups fairly easily... I have a regular workout routine, but I can't do sit-ups to save my life (Maybe 15 unassisted).
I start the Academy next month and am pretty worried.
Any advice on how to improve my numbers?

I would suggest that you do many leg lifts, flutter kicks, etc. There are even some really easy ab workouts that take just a few minutes that you can research on the internet.

do sit-ups all the time...
When you wake up...
Before you leave for work...
During your breaks at work....
Lunch break at work...
When you get home...
When watching tv...during the commercials...
Before getting in the shower....
After getting out of the shower...
Before going to bed....
After you go pee in the middle of the night...
When your alarm clock goes off and before you hit the snooze button....
and dont just do sit ups....do flutter kicks, scissor kicks, crunches, oblique crunches, v-ups, reverse sit-ups....and the ever lasting....CORE WORK!

Let me see if I can spell this out for you:
If you look on the CHP (http://www.chp.ca.gov/) website under recruiting (http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/index.html)and then under 'Apply Online for Cadet (http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/info.php)', you should find a document titled "Physical Conditioning for the Cadet Applicant (http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/docs/CHP%20608%20.pdf)". This document is 24 pages and outlines how to prepare. I would follow this as it was designed specifically for you, the applicant.
Disclaimer: I am not an applicant, just a cadet's wife and it took me all of 2 minutes to locate this document.

I hope to be in the April class as well. I have my psych eval on the 18th of this month. I have been hitting the gym every other day without fail. Situps are my biggest weakness, getting better though. One tip, dont take breaks in beween different excercises. They told my group at the PAT that its 20 minutes non-stop cardio. So just keep working out on a regular basis and dont slack. :)

I have all of that information. I'm not asking for that, I'm asking for personal experience. What works and what doesn't for people.
There are thousands of different ways to work out. The CHP website, as great a resource as it may be, does not have all the answers.

YES!
If you are having a hard time doing sit-ups, then do more.....you can do crunches to augment your situps and to work another part of your core. What ever you do, make sure you do something, because if you are in top shape going in, you can let your mind relax during PT as opposed to stressing about it because you are not in shape.
....because if you are in top shape going in, you can let your mind relax during PT....
I think if you'd ask anybody who's been there/done that, you'd find that this is most definitely not the case - no matter how good your physical conditioning is when you show up. You may not stress as much as the "food blister" next to you whose idea of a pre-academy workout was playing Nintendo standing up instead of sitting on the couch and cutting his twinkee intake in half, but you'll still stress and still be pushed to (and beyond) your limits. That's a fact.

Do they have you do leg raises or flutter kicks at the academy, or do they make you do both?

Every human body is genetically different and reacts differently when placed under physical stress. The key is to find what challenges your body the most to get the result you are looking for. What I personally use for overall body fitness and endurance is Cross-fit. If I'm not hitting the gym heavy and hard with weight training to bulk up, then I'm in the gym doing Cross-fit exercise to cut body-fat, improve overall body strength and endurance.
Try this link http://www.crossfit.com/. Start by doing the WOD(Work Out of the Day), then working yourself up to varsity exercises.
I hope this post has helped.
