I know that our men are just currently finding out if they are attending this class, but I wanted to start to make connections with women that will be beginning this process in April...

My husband received his letter/packet on Saturday. We definently have a lot to do over the next month and a half...and we half to spend a lot of money too...yikes. Any one have any children? We have three (8, 3, & 1) and I am pregnant (due March 27th...yes three weeks from now!). This will be a HUGE change in our lives...a little for the worse and a lot for the better. It will be worse for me because I will have a new baby at home and three other children to care for by myself (good thing that I have family close and we live close to the academy (in Roseville) and I will see him when he is able to come home).

Network with each other and support each other as much as possible. Your significant other needs to report to Camp Snoopy with nothing on his/her mind except being the best Cadet possible so he/she can graduate and join a very noble profession!!! The short-term sacrifice will provide you with a long-term reward that is almost unmatched.

(the only thing better would be if they became a firefighter instead):badgrin::badgrin::badgrin:

Good luck to all of the Cadets...

My Husband got his invitation yesterday! We are both very excited. I am looking forward to getting to know the Wives and S.O.'s of CTC-II-08 as well. I would love to help organize a group and start planning the dinner meet up on Sunday, April 27th! Only 54 days 'till pick up day, but who's counting!

+1 on reporting with family support. We see new cadets drop after only a few days because they are not fully supported at home. The Academy is stressful enough without the added presure of a spouse who is not supportive.

My fiancee just got his packet on Monday. We are planning to attend the orientation at the Southern Division office and the one in Sacramento. This forum is great and I hope we will be able to help each other knowing we are going to be seperated with the ones we love, but I know it's all going to be worth it!

My hubby is in CTC-I-08 and we had one in our area (border division). I would ask your BI.

Ha ha ha! When I told him he could follow his dream I was hoping for a fireman! So when I saw that quote I could not help but really, truly LOL!!!

Anyhow, I am probably going to be the oldest cadet wife in this class! But I will wear my crown proudly and bring the wine to celebrate.

I'm very proud of my hubby, as I am sure you all are of your SO's. He got his phone call on Thursday night just four days after psych. Looks like April 28th will be THE day!

We have been married 15 years in May, have 3 kids and we go together like peas and carrots....for all those who were asked that. I am looking forward to chatting with everyone, and I hope for lifelong friendships.

Hi ladies! In case you haven't been told, there is a CHP Wives group on MySpace that is very helpful. It includes cadet wives and "seasoned" wives, so it's a good mix. The group is "by invitation only," so once your significant other gets his letter go ahead and PM me (or another person that belongs to the MySpace group) and I can send you an invite.

Good luck!!

So the new class started today...Just wondering how all you SO's are doing out there? I wasn't able to drop my guy off in Sac since I live down in SoCal, nor was I able to go to the orientation....did I miss any important info? I tried asking my SO but he wasn't very informative...let me know if I missed any good stuff! thanks

Sorry you missed dropping him off. It was quite an experience to see where they will be living and working for the next 6 months. The CTC I 08 Company C did a demonstration of their marching, it was quite impressive. They also gave some information on benefits and if there are any emergencies who to talk to etc. There is a blue folder with information...Ask him to bring it home for you.

I'm actually missing my cadet... I know he will be home on Friday night, but I just can't help but be excited and grieved at the same time! (must be my neurosis kicking in) LOL! Anyways..I spoke with him...and he said, "I am OK!" So if he can survive...so can I!

Let me know what you all hear.

I'm sorry but what the heck does SO's mean, soon officer?? The only time I have ever heard this term used is describing a Sheriff officer or Sheriff office, thus coining the term SO?:noidea:

Well from the title of this thread, and using common sense, I think it means Significant Other.

Any SO's in the Fresno area? My boyfriend just started yesterday and I'm pretty nervous about the whole thing. I didn't meet many locals at the orientation.

I just found this website, but I'm a CTC II-08 wife also!

I am in Orange County, anyone else here?

How's it been going for everyone so far?

Hi, I'm a CTC II-08 wife as well and just found this site too. I'm from the sacramento area but my husband figures well be moving down south once he graduates. Just a little nervous about having to move and rent out our house- though so far no word about when the dream list it to be posted. Did your cadet spend the weekened getting his friends drunk to do sobriety testing on them too?

My husband and his room mate helped CTC I-08 when they did the Wet Lab (doing FST). His room mate was the drinker and my husband was the babysitter, so to speak (for legal reasons, they have to have a sober Cadet paired up w/ each drunk Cadet). My husband doesn't drink, so he just kind of goes through the motions when he practices on the weekends. We don't really have anyone that lives by us for him to practice with, so I just help him as much as I can.

If you own a house, you have higher priority as far as getting placed in your top choices. From what my husband has heard, we should be getting the Dream Sheets in the next couple weeks. I know previous classes have normally gotten it around Week 19 or 20.

How has your husband been doing w/ the Academy so far?

So far so good. He's been nicknamed cadet "memo" due to all the memos he's had to write on Wed. nights. Thank God spelling tests are over! He's in company B. How 'bout yours? He is struggling with spanish, never had it before and hard to adjust to when your over 3:smile:! He lost a roommate a couple of weeks ago who wasn't doing well at EVOC or range. Nice chating with you.

Ugh, memos! Luckily, my husband is fluent in Spanish, so that's the one thing that he hasn't had to worry about at all. One of his roommates quit in the first month, but they moved another Cadet in there so their room is still full. He's been lucky that he has great roommates that he gets along with really well, which can make all the difference! It's primarily just getting through it. Like he definitely has hard days where he feels like he might not make it, but at the same time he knows that this is not the way it'll be forever and that he just needs to kind of suck it up and get through the Academy, you know? It'll be nice to have the long weekend this weekend though! :)

Through out the Academy, the Cadets get 4 weekdays off. Ours (meaning CTC II-08) are: 4th of July, this next Monday, Labor Day, and then October 3rd (which is when they will do their ride along at their assigned station). Since your Cadet's class (meaning CTC III-08) is during Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc, his days off will probably be more holiday focused.

Perfect, our anniversary falls on Thanksgiving this year! Awesome! Maybe an extra day to celebrate!

Quick question, I was just wondering when we might be notified of the days off? My cadet is in CTC III-08 and we are around the holidays. At orientation they did not know yet but told us that the academy had accounted for the holidays so they knew they would have some time off (assuming they pass everything, etc. etc.). My son's birthday is Christmas Eve and he has been bugging me daily (Umm son, it is August!!! Guess I am at that age  that I no longer anticipate my birthday for months on end! LOL). So if anyone has any idea or can tell me if they will give us a schedule, that would be fabulous!

Probably... but since spelling tests are over, his future is looking better for now.

Until break in when he is getting hammered for spelling errors in his reports, then gets extended for report writing and finally doesn't make it off probation because report writting is a HUGE part of this job. CHP Reports have to stand up in court while being torn apart by lawyers.

It's not over and he's not safe by any means. He really needs to fix the problem. Even officers off probation can be and have been fired for poor reports.

Thanks to all the spelling tests and extra memos he's become a much better writer. It has been to his benefit; he's the first to admit it.

I know for our class CTC II-08, we have been getting our schedules gradually. At first, they would get their schedules a month or so at a time, but recently my husband got the remainder of the schedule through graduation. If nothing else, they have been giving us at least a few weeks notice when they have a weekday off.
