My BI said I should ask here, would it be a good idea to purchase and bring a duty bag (to organize/carry my books and papers) to the academy? He thaught it might have made it easier for him if he had, some 20 years ago.

My cadet bought one at the PX like the first or second day. Think of it this way, it would be one more thing you'd have to pack in your one bag on pick up day. Just buy one there!

They sell them at the PX. I'd recommend getting one after you get there so you have the same one as all your classmates. You don't want to be the only guy with the Hello Kitty bag when everyone else has Keropi.

You will need one at the academy, but I think you should just wait until you get there and buy one at the PX. A duty/war bag is not something you want to bring with you on pick-up day. You will have to go to the PX your first week anyway, so I would just wait.

I agree with everyone else. Wait til you get there. (And Little Mermaid is better than the Hello Kitty bags...)

You're right about that. My HK bag made our K-9 unit go bonkers every time I drove by.

I would wait. when i went through the academy (not chp) the whole class was required to use the same style bag.

Remember this: Buy small. The bigger the bag you have the more unnecessary trash you will haul around. I use a lether computer bag on the road. More than enough room for the really necessary stuff.

Well, you're also a Sergeant so how much do you really need to carry?
Just joshin' with ya.:tape:

Not much, just a couple of form 2's...

I carried a legal size brief case for 10 years. When I wore it out I went through it before it hit the dumpster. It was amazing all the stuff I had carried for a decade and never used. My military pack is the same way. When you have to hump stuff, you really begin to take stock of what is really necessary. If it does not have at least two functions, it's a luxury item (e.g. E-tool - shovel and chair. Stove, hot coffee...luxury item (but well worth the added weight)).
