I passed the written test with a score of 50.29. How far am I ahead of my friend who received 53.08?The score reported on your letter is what's known as a T score. You can read more than you ever wanted to know about the basis here (http://post.ca.gov/faqs/entrylevel_testscor.asp#number6).
__________________________________________________ ________________________________

I took my written test on October 2007, unfortunately I failed with a score of 32.5
I was unable to open more information on the T score today and last time I went on it, I didn't quite understand it. Can anybody by any chance guess and tell me from a scale of 1-10 or even a grade from A-F, How bad of a grade would my score be considered to be???
My new test date is next Saturday, the 23rd...I was just wondering... anyone???

Failed = F.

No sense in racking your brain on what the T-score means it is irrelevant! It's pass or fail plain and simple. Just study basic English, grammar and punctuation along with reading comprehension and you should be fine. If you still have trouble after your second attempt you might want to consider taking a few English courses at your local community college.

It's irrelevent....it's a pass or fail test and it has no bearing on the rest of the testing process. 50.29 passes, 32.5 fails.....you need a 48.

48.?
Thank you Sir.
That's all I needed to know...

Thanks for pointing out the dead link. Looks like POST eliminated the lengthy explanation. This page (http://www.post.ca.gov/FAQ/Program_Specific/Entry_Level/Applicant.asp) has some information.

A 48 to pass? My Friend got a 49 and didn't pass.

I am hoping the written isn't as hard as a few in this thread have described it to be. Well I can hope for the best because there is no turning back now: plane tickets in hand:biggrin:

English and grammar are the big things. If you have passed English 90 or 101 in college, you should be good. Pages 25 to 29 or so of the applicant study guide have good examples of what to expect.

I suppose, the recruitment officers did call him to explain that he was close but not close enough.

I've failed three times now, got a 38 twice and a 46 this last test.

I really think they should take out the "fill in the blank" part of test.

If you are having problems with this area, try working crossword puzzles.

I don't think they should take out the "fill in the blanks", unless they reinstate the essay portion of the test.

Good point, I guess that's fair.

I thought Sgt. Rhea posted some pretty good advice regarding the written test in another thread (http://www.chpforums.com/forum/www.chpforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4348). I would check it out and try his suggestions. Good luck to you!

I got an idea, lets just have the candidates spell their names in crayons, then nobody gets theirs feelings hurt. My god, there are many of us who took the test when it had the essay and we did, how bad do you want it, practice go get the state traffic officer exam book, which many of us did not have, and study. :tape:

I really liked the portion with the missing words. It kind of felt like a puzzle. I actually rushed thru part one of the exam just so I could get to part 2. It gets difficult when you forget what words you can use!!!!!

If you go to the CHP website they vitually give you the exam to go over.

If we get crayons....can I please have the red one?

What is this state traffic officer exam book, and where can I find one. I have a BA Degree, and I read on pretty much a nightly basis so I'm not thinking the written exam will be too difficult! However- it can never hurt to be prepared. I did search for this exam book on Amazon, I didn't find anything. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I just want to add, while the books may help, if you have problems writing, the English classes at the local JC would be a MUCH better recommendation.

Also, if you have someone who has excellent English writing abilities, have them assist you. Of the people I have been around, the hardest part has been either the "Fill In" or understanding synonyms. Sometimes having them explain WHY your answer is incorrect is more valuable than just telling you which answer is right (which is what the books tend to do.)

The pass score for the written was lower back then also.

I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but what do the scores mean? I've seen people posting their scores, and they have been in the high 40's (usually) and low 50's. In an academic enviornment that would be an F. I came to the conclusion these must not be a percentage score. What is currently required as a passing score, and does anyone know what the best you can score is?

Thanks!

Thanks! The scores are not percentages. They are a T Score. Again, here is a link (http://www.post.ca.gov/FAQ/Program_Specific/Entry_Level/Applicant.asp) with regards to the T Score.

I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but what do the scores mean? Not to nit pick here, but these are both questions that would be addressed had you read the thread titled READ THIS BEFORE POSTING (http://www.chpforums.com/forum/announcement.php?f=36&a=6). And attention to detail is somewhat important in the application process you are about to embark upon.

I have heard its around 48.And I believe this falls under 6. General Posting Restrictions: Additionally, do not give advice based on speculation -- this does not help anyone, certainly not the person looking for assistance.

Really guys (and by that I mean everyone), I don't want to spend my time suggesting you follow directions any more than you want to hear it. I would much rather spend my time addressing the real questions and concerns surrounding your applications. Many of you want to be cops, right? Enforce laws... Follow the rules... Attend to details others do not think are important...

Hi SweeptheLeg!

I was just curious when you sent in your application? How long did it take for them to let you know when you were scheduled for the written? I just sent in my application yesterday, but the deadline isn't until May 14th- so I was curious to know if they would give me a test date prior to the receiving all the applications for that cycle? According to your test date- it sounds like they do! Hoping to hear something soon.

It only took about 10 business days to get a letter, quick turnaround. I know I will be able to make the written, not sure if I can attend the follow up testing 2 weeks after written. I have a young child and work for a defense contractor so my hours are never set.

Thanks. If you can not attend the remainder of the testing, you will have to reapply. Your written test is good for life and will be waived, so the end result is that you will be invited directly to the next PAT/Psych/QAP.
