2005 VW Touareg V-8. Traded a 2004 Land Rover Freelander SE3 for it a few months ago. The LR was a piece of junk; had it in four times for warranty work and traded it in with only 12,000 miles on it. Did a lot of research before going with the Touareg. It's the nicest car I've ever owned and I've had several very nice cars. The Phaeton is actually a very luxurious ride. VW is trying to build and upscaled line. Industry critics suggested the Touareg and Phaeton should have been given the Audi badge instead. I don't care either way. For all I like to do the Touareg is a sweet ride. Very solid. My girlfriend really likes the heated leather seats after we go skiing.

A SRT-8 is a nice car, but I would rather have a S2000, my opinion. Dodge is trying to improve by making all these SRT cars. They stop making the Dodge Neon SRT-4 which happened to be one of my favorites. If I was you and had the money, I would but a Subaru Impreza WRX STi, or just a WRX. They have power, comfort, and the best handling I have ever seen (The STi).

Problem is the two seats in the S ain't cutin' it anymore. I've been known to buy all types of vehicles over the years and think the SRT would be fun to play with for a couple of years.

I agree with you CHP, I also love the STi's. Those things are crazy fast and have awesome handleing . Not to mention, they are pretty reasonably priced. Also, with a little extra modding, which from your current car it seems you know a little about, you can put down 400whp in an Sti easy.

Naw, I have the 2.8 V6. I am kinda glad it isnt a turbo, because then I can't be tempted so easily to modify it. But PES makes a supercharger for my car, but its about $4,000.
Sti's and Evo's don't even compare. Sti is more powerful, handles better, looks better & is cheaper than an Evo.
Do you like the looks of the new WRX? I don't think its too bad, but it is taking me some time to get used to it.

The new WRX has like 3 added HP. The design is ugly, but you grow on it over time. You got to love AWD. Oh yea and they are sipposed to totally redesign it in '07.

Man, that would be stupid for them to change the design of it only for one year, and then change it again. I used to think the design was ugly, but then I saw a couple that had aftermarket front bumpers and hoods, and it looked pretty nice. BUt compared to the previous body style, the new ones are worse. There is really no insentive to buy the new body style, since like you said, there is only 3 more hp.
CaliforniaHighwayPatrol

I know it is dumb to change the style after only 1 year, but I think it needs it. For God sakes it looks like a B9 Tribeca.

So then I hope that's not your sister :shock:ops:
CHP, I eat b16's for breakfast with my k20a3! If I replaced the valve springs and lifters with the Acura RSX-S equivalent (about $250 installed) I could increase my rev limit to 7800rpm safely rather than 7000rpm...with a hondata computer and some dyno time+tuning my car would theoretically be faster than a good majority of the imports. I really don't do any racing but I'd like to take it to the track to see what I do on the 1/4 mile
In all seriousness I don't really own it for the import tuner aspect of the car. Probably once a week I get some guy to pull up beside me on the freeway and honks his horn or does anything to get my attention so we can race. I guess that's what I get for how the car looks but oh well, I think it looks good. I only have that car because after owning a 1995 Tahoe for two years with 220,000 miles on it and getting 12mpg on the freeway I realized it would cost me know more to own a brand new car than it would to maintain, make payments and pay for gas on the Tahoe.
If I really wanted to go fast I'd get an STi or even better a Z06
The reason why I picked the Si is because I'm a musician so I had to make sure racks and guitar cabs could fit in my car so that's why I ended up with a hatch. I would have been fine with a Civic LX, but I'm glad I got it, it is a fun car to drive...

I saved for two years so that I could buy my Mazda Protege in cash, with no payments (in 2001)... I need to purchase another car soon, and I think I'll need to break down and make payments this time.

Very sweet ride... you must do a little overtime. What color?

Black, 310 hp V-8. Actually, I haven't seen much overtime lately. I could use the OT just to fund the gas consumption.

I have a VW dealer across the street from work Mentor and I've taken a close look at the Touareg since I'm getting the itch to sell my car but to be honest I was a little shocked at the sticker. But they are very nice.

Thanks Cameron. SB 405, the sticker price is shocking if you want the V-8. Owner satisfaction has been very high but Consumer Reports isn't pleased with it. Although CR's data is from 2003. Reliability issues have downgraded it but on Touareg message boards the ONLY reliability issue mentioned is problems with the height adjustable suspension. Seems to be a problem with the sensors. Fortunately, that's an option I didn't get. But what you get for your money is the only luxury SUV equipped for serious off-road performance. It's the only rig with a locking center differential and an optional locking rear differential. The front disc brakes also have four pistons stock with two pistons on the rear calipers. After dealing with brake problems on my Land Rover, I find these are almost too touchy. Anyway, it's a heavy mid-size SUV so the V-6 really isn't worth the base price. Plus the V-6 doesn't have as many luxuary options. The V-8, with dual exhaust, has a deep throaty sound and really makes you feel like you're driving a muscle car; complete with muscle car gas consumption :biggrin:shock:ubt: But with leather seats (heated front), auto-manual transmission (steptronic), wood/brushed aluminum interior, on board computer, etc., it's has a lot to offer. It's also won several rally series in its class in Europe. It beats the luxury of my Land Rover hands down, and outperforms it in the snow as well. And still offers a luxurious ride on the highway. It's a lot of vehicle for the money. If they'd offered it in 05' I'd have opted for the desiel. It's a much better deal than the similar Porsche Cayenne; same ride, same amenities, minus a Porsche engine. The engine and redesigned front end are all you pay for with the Cayenne.

That's my problem Mentor.....Everytime I look at getting a new car I ALWAYS want the biggest power plant. Problems with new models of a vehicle are pretty common. I first saw the Honda S2000 at the LA auto show in 1995 and it was love at first sight however when the car went into production in 2000 as bad as I wanted one I stayed away because I was worried about recall issues (which they did have) Funny thing is I waited until 2003 to buy mine and it was also recalled because of spark plug problems. I've also been looking at the Infiniti G35 Coupe the last week or so.

I hear you SB. I'm that way about electronics; computers, video game consoles, and televisions. Anything with new technology. I too opt for the largest engine. Have always done that. I have a boat to tow but the trailor and boat could probably be towed behind a Honda Civic (a very light sailboat). Regardless, when you drive a V-8 all day at work, it sucks driving home with a four banger. I don't know why; it's not as though I race to get home. I drive so conservatively that my kids complain all the time. Anyway, I'm getting the same gas mileage with my Touareg as I used to get in my Ford F-150 with a 5.4 litre Triton. A bigger engine and a heavier vehicle yet I'm getting maybe one mile per gallon more. I've looked at performance chips but that's expensive on this car and you have to ship the chip to the company for reprogramming. So you're without a vehicle for a week or so. Sucks. Not to mention any hassles you might encounter if it doesn't pass smog after that (it's supposed to). Every time I complain about the mpg I shut up as soon as I drive it anywhere.

Thanks, I just like cars. I'd only sell them if I could do so from the comfort of my computer desk at home, off-duty, after a few cocktails. But perhaps he can get me a deal on the Porsche Cayenne with the 525 hp twin turbo engine . . . It'd be worth the price of gas.
ChilePepper:
Did you see the new Toyota SUV they're releasing later this year. It's a total retro tribute to the old Landcruiser. It's even painted the same; blue with a white roof cap. The hood has the same luvers and all. It doesn't look like a Wrangler, however, but the pedigree is obvious at first sight.

valleydre, you only need to open an account at http://www.photobucket.com then download anything you want to post. Then, while posting a reply, click the photo button and copy the URL from your photobucket album in between the img brackets. My sons showed me how. Not hard at all. Of course they say that about all things computer.

My buddy has the G35 coupe. I have the Acura TL. He has the HP advantage and the RWD, but I gotta' tell you, from a "daily driver" prospective, take a look at the Acura. I'm very happy with mine. Higher grade materials and stronger fit & finish.

Driven it. Very nice, Very fast(on a closed course blah blah blah ;) ), but I would take the FX45 over that if you are looking for all around performance. ;)

Whenever I start getting that new car itch I try to leave myself open to look at many types of makes/models and do a lot of talking to people who already own what I'm looking at. I really enjoy my current car but more and more I find myself missing a back seat.
