Hello everyone. I've been viewing these forums for quite some time and I'm very appreciative of all the information from newbies and veterans alike. I have recently applied, and am curious as to how everyone else's hiring process has gone and/or is going. Contribution from anyone will be greatly appreciated. I'll start by posting mine so far. I'm not sure if something similar has been started...let me know if that's the case.

Most applicants here feel the need to share their progress in their signature block. As things change rapidly, I'm not sure we need a thread updated each time someone gets a call from their BI.

Welcome to the site and don't let me sarcasm discourage you. After a few years on the job, you'll be the same way.

I think I had more fun than I needed or wished for. I also feel bad that I got more of the Sgts. attention then others. I don't think I shared enough.

I understand people don't want every little detail...I was just curious because my process has just begun. Mainly, I just want to know roughly how long backgrounds takes, or has taken for those of you who have gone through it? I've been through a few of these, not particularly with law enforcement, but I have been through them, some of which have taken a full year. Is that typical with CHP as well? I know there is no one answer, but a rough average would be nice... Thanks.

2-3 weeks Mom? haha Man is that a new record? j/kSurprised me too. But, he was 21 with no credit history, minimal employment history (2 jobs) and had lived in one place all his life. I remember his telling me about being asked about his credit. "Is there anything in this folder you need to tell me about before I open it?" "Uh, no sir, I have no credit." Opens folder, laughter, "You're right."

ETA - All paperwork was mailed to employers/recommendations prior to the start.

Ah yeah, the days of no credit. I remember like it was yesterday going into my local Crocker Bank at the tender age of 19 and almost begging for my first credit card so I could start my life as a person with a credit history.

I wish it would have been that easy for my cadet! After buying a house, credit cards, employment history and well, having been born before MTV, it took awhile
