For those that are starting the process like me  or are having trouble building up your running endurance you may want to take a look at the following running program created by www.coolrunning.com (http://www.coolrunning.com) (a website I'm sure has been mentioned before here)
It is a 9 week interval program that builds you up to running 3 miles. From there you can obviously work on increasing your speed or start adding additional miles (5 miles seems to be a good target from what I've read here). The running schedule and article are here : http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
Also, if you like gadgets and if you run with an Ipod you should check out the Nike +. It is a small chip that you stick in your shoe (they say only Nike + shoes but I have heard it will work with any shoe) and connect another piece to your Ipod Nano (unfortunately it only works with the Nano). The Nike + records all of your running information and comes over your earphones with a voice that tells you your distance, time, average speed, etc. When you get home you plug in your Ipod and all information is uploaded to your computer where you can see all of your runs in graph style. If you are a visual person this can help you see how you have been performing, whats been working and what maybe hasn't.
