Hey guys and gals, maybe you can help steer me towards the right direction. I'm trying to get my wife a job with the state and would like to see her work for the department in some way. She has been doing great in Retail Manafgement the last 9 years but absolutely hates it. She is a Store Manager at a high end home store and makes $68k a year but wants something new. Why? I have no idea. Its killing me that she wants to give it up but she has to be happy right? If I got $68k a year to run a store I'd be pretty damn happy and just deal with it. She has no degree but great management experience. Do any of you know what she might qualify for. I'd like to see her get a job in the $4-5k per month range but after finding out how much our Office clerical make I almost s*** myself. How can anyone live off $2700 a month. I read the MIS's everyday but don't know if she would qualify for some of the Assoc. Analyst type jobs that pay well.

Thanks in advance.

First thing I'd look at is VPOS: http://www.spb.ca.gov/jobs/vpos/index.htm

Search by geography, starting in Sac and Yolo counties. Clicking on some of the links should open up job descriptions and qualifications info, which would tell her if she's eligible to apply.

The dispatch route could get her up into that salary range, but it would take a few years to get there, and a couple promotions as well. I'd explore AGPA or SSM and see if she qualifies there. Clerical is woefully underpaid, and I can't fathom how those folks get by.....

If you're both in a position for her to take a lesser paying job, and be happy doing so, then she should go for it. Life's too damn short to be unhappy at work.

Happy New Year!
