Ok, I was wondering if any of the Officers could post what the floor excersizes where like at the academy. What Im speacifically looking for would be to name each of the work outs, and what is involved, and what you start out doing, and what you are doing at the end of the academy. I know this is probably asking a lot, but I know that for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Now giving you specific run down of PT at the academy would just be plain wrong. You have to experience it first hand just like everyone who was a cadet had to. Here is what I found at http://www.chp.ca.gov (http://www.chp.ca.gov/)

Physical Training
http://www.chp.ca.gov/images/cadet06.jpgThis is the most challenging phase of training for most cadets. You will need to report for training prepared for a strenuous conditioning program. The Physical Training (PT) Staff will motivate you to push your body to its limits and beyond. You will be expected to pass a variety of Physical Fitness Tests and the Physical Performance Program Test.
To prepare yourself, you should be involved in some form of strength training program. A circuit training program is advisable. You should also be running at least 3 miles, 3 times a week, at a 9-minute-per-mile pace. You should also be able to perform 50 sit-ups, 50 push-ups and 4 pull-ups prior to reporting to the Academy. This will ensure that you meet the minimum acceptable level for incoming cadets.

Yes, I realize you asked for Officer's input, but I'm a newbie Officer's wife & this is what he used to get into shape. It does say minimum, but he did this since he sent out his application for the CHP & lost 60lbs before pick up day. Good luck to you in getting physically prepared.

Every instructor is different. Just like you and me each instructor prefers certain exercises. But here is what usually happens. You workout on mats until the next class gets there to do there workout. Have fun.

And every morning you run in there it will always the instructor that loves whatever exercise you DON'T feel like doing that day up on the stage.

Pain is good. Extreme pain is extremely good.

You're going to have some great days!

Work on your upper body strength and cardiovascular strength. Lots of ab work and arm and shoulder work.

Nobody I knew ever had an easy day in the gym, not even my classmates who returned as PT instructors. Whatever your physical condition is, you are still going to get a good work out.

DO NOT show up completely out of shape!!! Don't do it.... You will quickly find yourself in the checkout line with others saying, "I didn't think it would be this hard." Unlike local police academies, you will not see any grossly over weight cadets at the CHP academy.
