Hello,

I've been told that people completing a POST certified basic law enforcement academy receive college credit. Does this apply for the CHP Academy?

Well, since the CHP Academy is a POST certified law enforcement academy, the answer is yes.

Kind of on-subject...a four year degree gets you an extra $200+ per month and a two year degree with time on the job(I think it is 7 or 9 years) will get you the same stipend.

P.S. I know that isn't exactly what you were asking.

If you attend a POST academy at a junior college you recieve credits from that institution just as if you had attended their regular JC program. I recieved 12 units for my first police academy. They are on my transcript from that college.

As for transfer credits, it depends on the institution you are applying to. I did not recieve any transfer credits for the academy from the University of Phoenix.

I have heard, although I haven't checked this out myself, that you can "monitor" CJ classes, which is to say you can pay a small fee ($130) and take the final exam without actually attending the classes and completing the course work. If you achieve a passing grade you recieve full credit.

Yes, it does apply to the CHP Academy. If you do a search for "college" and/or "credits" you should turn up some past threads on the topic with more information.

Well, hells bells, sign me up! I want the units without doing the work! :tape: All kidding aside, I've not heard of this (at a JC level), but you can "audit" classes at the JC level, which allows you to sit in, do the coursework if you choose, and take the exams, again if you choose. The upside: significantly reduced fees, and the opportunity to get familiar with the material without effecting your GPA. The downside: no credit given for the class.

This program is beneficial for someone wanting to see if they are interested in a particular subject, and I could see where it would be very helpful to someone who's a slow learner or who has a learning disability, if they want to get a head start on the material so that they keep a good GPA.

Jeff, I'd like to hear your experiences with UOP, if you'd PM me, I have questions
