Since for has stop making the very popular police vehicle the Crown Victoria, I was wonder what car will take its place. I have heard rumors about Dodge Chargers, but in other states, some cops use Monte Carlo's and Impalas. Anyone have any clue on what the next car might be? What kind of car would you want it to be?
At last year's COPS West convention, Ford adamantly denied the rumors that they are discontinuing the Crown Vic. This was during the Police Vehicles seminar where GM and Chrysler were also present.

Last I heard, Ford was NOT going to do away with the Crown Vic. However, the Dodge Charger is being run through its paces as a possible P/V.

Here's my quote from another thread:
"Also, referring back to the budget, I don't think the CHP will be switching to Dodges as a primary soon either. Ford announced that they will still produce the Crown Vic for fleets, such as for LE, Taxis, etc. It would be foolish of Ford not too. They are facing huge financial trouble, just like GM, and Law enforcement is a huge cash cow for them."
I hope CHP starts switches to Dodges though, 350hp would be great.

I hope so too, the Crown Vic has been around for a while and still looks the same. The department needs some change for the better.

As many problems and the decline of sales and jobs as Ford and other major manufactures of cars have. Ford would never discontinue the fleet of cars. Way to much money would be lost and could possibly bankrupt ford.

I somewhat agree, Ford will lose a big account, but I think it needs to be done. It is time for a new car.

One of our advisors told us that the Charger and Magnum did not hold up due to transmission problems. He said they were going to start looking into Impalas. Just what i heard.

Impalas are kind of on the small side to be a patrol unit IMO

honolulu pd and the military police at pearl harbor both use(d) the impala. hpd also allowed personal vehicles, which was the first time i had seen that.

I thought Impalas were front wheel drive. Is that an issue or is it only rear wheel drive cars are to be used?

I beleave the new crappy Impalas are front wheel drive, except the SS model.

correct, i think the SS is FWD also though.
it seems that RWD is the way to go when it comes to police cars, i think they just handle abuse better and are easier to maintain
