I am looking at buying a new handgun, and need some help from all of the verified chippies and any one else. Basically What two handguns I am looking at is the new Smith&Wesson 4006TSW with the new picatinny style rail like the California Highway Patrol new department issue handgun, or the the new Smith&Wesson M&P 40 . I like the 40 caliber and the 357sig round; they are my most favorite. I hope you all could give me input on your experience with the 4006 and help me decide.

My Current handguns I own.
Sig P226 40/357 Sig with both barrels
Glock 22 40cal
Beretta 92fs-M9 9mm
I would buy neither....I would buy an H&K .45....

Springfield XD-40 or XD-9. The 9mm ammo is much cheaper if you plan on shooting a lot of rounds through it. Why is 40S&W and 357sig your "most favorite"?
H&K USP .45...!!!! (i'm drooling now)

Springfield XD-40 or XD-9. The 9mm ammo is much cheaper if you plan on shooting a lot of rounds through it. Why is 40S&W and 357sig your "most favorite"?Well I like the 357Sig for 1-It's speed 1450 fps<(feet per second-) from a 124 grain bullet 2-penetration power 3-close to the 357 magnum fps 4- excellent range for an auto pistol and that round is close to a 357 mag range 5- magazine capacity of 12-15 rounds instead of 6 rounds 5- damn good stopping power.
Now for the 40 caliber is that it is a good balance between the 9mm and the 45acp and decent magazine capacity.

Shot placement is the key, not the caliber. Buy what you can shoot well and what you are comfortable with. Between your two guns, I would go to the M&P in a heartbeat. I know a few guys that own one and they love it. I know a bunch of guys walking around with TSW's wishing they had something else :hitwall:.
But give the Springfield XD a look. Been reading great reviews on them.

I have a certified pre owned P226 that came with both the 357sig and 40cal barrels, night sights, tow sets of grips (sig factory and Hogue grips) and five 12 round magazine's all for $630. I might even look at some HK's or a Sig Sauer 229R or 220R. My P 226 is a spectacular gun ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I bought my XD40 I was looking at, the m&p40, the XD40, and the Glock 22 or 23. I ended up choosing the XD40 because of the many safety features. The grip 1911 style palm safety, the hammer indicator, the chambered indicator, the trigger safety, and the ambidextrous magazine release . I also liked the fact that it came in a bi-tone with the stainless upper. The only thing I wish it had was changeable grips. I've been looking lately at buying an M&P9 or a Glock 17 or 19. On the other hand I would like to have a twin XD40... So many choices. Not to hijack this thread but what guns are good for carrying off duty? I like the Glock 23 except for its bulkiness and also the sig 239.

S&W 500 Magnum. Nothing beats a .50 cal bear gun. Everyone should own one.

That S&W 500 magnum would stop any gang bangers and probably the whole Los Angels freeway system in it's tracks. It would be funny to see all of the CHP officers carrying 500 S&W.

Personally I would go with either SIG, Glock or H&K. I own a sig P220 Equinox .45 and Glock 23C (compensated) .40. They are both awesome guns even though the glock is ugly as sin. I have fired a few S&W's and havnt been as happy with their over all performance. But between the two you have listed i would go with the M&P.

I have shot some HK's and a Springfield XD 40 at one of my local gun shop up hear in Minnesota and those are pretty nice handguns. I own a Sig P226 and I like Sig's, and I think that HK"s would fit me well. I shot the HK USP 40cal full-size frame at a Law Enforcement Silhouette target like the one we use an my local police academy hear in metro and the very first shot I fired, I hit dead center mass in the chest area and put the rest vary close to the first shot. That not to bad for a guy who has never shot an HK before. I also shot the HK P2000 and did pretty well with that gun, but not as well as the USP. I love Guns that are Made In Germany, but I also like guns that are Made In Austria,Italy,U.S.A,Russia and Argentina. Now for the report on the Springfield XD 40 tore up the target with that gun too all three of them made me happy. Early this fall I shot a S&W M&P 40 at the same gun shop and I shot much better with the M&P then My Glock 22. I Love this Gun store every early spring and fall they have a spring shooters show and A fall shooters; were they have all of the factory representatives from all of the major brands come their so you can try their guns out. This is how it work at that shooters show you get free use of all their guns. You basically walk up to a booth (let's Say S&W) you find the gun you want shoot you give the factory rep your Drivers License he then puts the handgun or rifle in a case; then you go to the range counter, and the only thing you have to buy is the ammo free target and range those three days. You also get free use of their eyes and ears. Also you can shoot Fully Auto Assault Rifles Machine Guns and Sub Machine Guns:biggrin:. I only wish the S&W Law Enforcement Rep would come their instead of the civilian, so I could try the new S&W 4006TSW like all of you guys carry every day. If are ever in the Minneapolis/St.Paul area stop into Bill's Gun Shop in Robbinsdale (web site) http://www.billsgs.com. The shooters Show is held Friday through Sunday.

I am not a Chippie, hopefully I will be but... I have a pair of XD's. One .45 ACP 5" model and a 9mm service model. Both are shooters and in 3000+ rounds on the .45 I have never seen a failure of any type. They are by no means the "end all, be all" of plastic pistols, but they are worth a look. My mom used to tell me that the best gun is one which hits the target.

I have shot alot of firearms and let me tell you that the best side arm for a police officer is the Sig Sauer 226 (40caliber).
I love it, our department switched from the Beretta and I could not wait for my Sig I was like a kid going to see Santa for the first time.
I always tell me people that if a gun was a car I would compare the glock to reliable Honda, the Beretta would be a Ford and the Sig would be the Cadalliac.

:cool:I use my wits and my hands are certified lethal weapons.................hee ya....By the way sig or glock is better then S&W or the Springfield, we gave one away last year at a raffle and we had to mop the drool off the floor when people left.

I have two Sig's and one Glock... all three nice weapons...but, the Sig's feel so much better in my hands. I think Sig's are more akin to BMW's than Cadalliacs!

Of the safe full of handguns that I own, the SIG P220 is the one I speak of in reverent terms--it is, IMHO, the samurai sword of handguns. While it is a .45, the SIG in .40 would no doubt bring smiles to your face. My SIG, owned for 20 years, and shot often, has never had a failure to feed, digests anything I feed it, and is accurate to a fault. There are many fine handguns on the market, and I have owned many; clean out my safe, save one, it's the SIG, with no hesitation or debate. Good luck on your quest!
