View Full Version : too late for CTC-I 08?
Hey everyone,
I had my medical exam on 11/26 and (assuming I passed) haven't yet been scheduled for the psych. oral.
If the state schedules it soon, is there any hope for still making it to CTC-I 08 or am I going to be a CTC-II 08 hopeful?
Unlikely, but I'll defer to hwydog.

Is that a first for you????:noidea:
My son got his invite (actually a call first) 7 days after the psych, about 13 days before the start of the Academy.

For the record, I am, and always have been, perfectly aware making it in with four weeks to go is possible. The factors that determine whether it is going to happen go to greater depth than I, or certainly any applicants, are privy to. (I also realize that is a horrible sentence.) How many are in the pipe lined up for psych interviews? Where does our cycle fall with CDC? How long are the docs taking to complete reports? Is the class already full?
This is why I deferred to hwydog (or someone else with expert knowledge of the immediate and full picture). I still maintain, in my opinion (for the little it is worth), making it into the class is unlikely.
chp14480 has since said all the offers are out. I don't know so I have to take his word for it.
The sarcasm came from being corrected (or at least passive-aggressively contradicted), once again, by someone with no specific knowledge of 9C1's situation. I realize it was fact that cg+fd2chp stated, but you may have noticed that myself and others are blue in the face from asking applicants to refrain from dishing out advise. In this situation, it would be unfortunate if 9C1 got false hope, or heaven forbid did something stupid like tell his/her employer they may be going into the January class.... My goal is to provide accurate information on CHPForums and often that means not speculating. Last I checked, chp.net was still open for the rumor and trash-talking business.
EDIT: While I'm on my soapbox, I'll take it one step farther. Many officers who mean well and have the best recruiting interests at heart sometimes provide misleading, and sometimes inaccurate, information. It happens here and in interactions across the state. Of the roughly 7,000 uniformed officers, very few have worked in an aspect of the hiring process closely enough to know what really matters. Telling an applicant "you'll be fine," or "doesn't sound like a big deal to me," is a disservice -- at least it is after a brief conversation or reading a paragraph on the Internet.
So who can you trust for reliable information? Well, I suggest applicants (specifically those who have connections to people in the Department) get information on their application from someone who currently works in backgrounds, recruitment, or the Cadet Hiring Unit. Use the other officers you come in contact with as a source of knowledge of the job and our duties -- just not your application.
Ultimately, it comes to your background investigator -- the person who really gets to know who you are and your history (the bad and the good). That's why so often our answer is "apply and see how it goes." A BI will spend dozens of hours "getting to know you." It simply can't happen in a few minutes.
This is why I deferred to hwydog (or someone else with expert knowledge of the immediate and full picture). I still maintain, in my opinion (for the little it is worth), making it into the class is unlikely. I just want to clarify, I was just posting personal experience. I too think it is highly unlikely. But, it can happen, so if you REALLY want to go, be prepared in case it happens. Will it happen? Chances are slim to nil. They scheduled my son's medical and psych on the same day. Others who had taken their medical before him entered the October class. Why? I have no clue. Luckily, he was in a position to accept when they called.

Really??? That is a bummer I am so close. Forgive me for asking a stupid question, as I must admit to failure in using the search function, and I am pretty sure I know the answer. Is it at all possible that an invitation could be sent out to an applicant provided that their med and psych clear by the academy date? still holding out hope.

Errr...no...they haven't. We're still making offers...as soon as you clear the final hurdle (psych or med) we are making you an offer. I anticipate we will be making offers right through Christmas...unless we're directed to stop by someone up the chain. If that happens, I'll post so you folks will know that January is closed...but that ain't the case just yet.
A thought for those of you who anticipate you may get an offer (finished backgrounds and in the psych/med phase) - if you go away for the holidays, make sure we either have your cell phone number or you check your voicemail at home frequently. When it comes down to crunch time, we will be making phone offers, followed by the paperwork to those who accept the offer. If we do not hear back from you REALLY timely when we make a phone offer, we are moving onto the next person...so you want to make sure that if you get a voicemail from us - call back STAT!
Hope that helps.

I received an offer by phone today around 14:00. I informed the woman who contacted me that I was not yet 21, somehow she didn't get that message, and she informed me that I would be in the July class. They must be really pushing to fill the current class. I imagine it would have been pretty crazy around here packing and getting all the essentials ready before Monday. I don't even have boots yet (hot spots anyone?). That along with the fact that I'm not in the shape I would like to be in quite yet. Time to go get on the treadmill...

If you haven't heard from CHU yet regarding an offer for CTC I-08, I'm sorry, no more offers will be extended. We will start making offers for CTC II-08 as soon as we are given the go ahead.

I had classmates that were not 21 during the academy. One turned 21 two weeks before graduation. So unless they changed the rules, you can be 20 and start, but must be 21 before you graduate. So maybe the graduation date for I-08 was after your 21st B-day. Good luck for II-2008, we need you guys.

If you're willing to, could you let us know when they do give you the 'go ahead' for making CTC II-08 offers?
This is the 4th year that I have been in the hiring process. I've never applied to any other agency and never plan to... I love the CHP and hope to be in this next academy class more than anything.
Thanks for all your time.

The next class is a definite go. The offers should start going out the first or second week in March.
