What is with that hat? Did he pay money for that? Or was it a dare?
I knew he would be famous someday, but i figured there would be some criminal and/or civil charges along with it!

Lighten up on the hat...............That is an official Cold Weather Cap. I had and still have one in my memory box. It came in handy even in the flatlands where I worked in Yolo county on a cold winter graveyard shift, and if it got real cold you can bring the flaps down and button the chin strap. They were also handy when I was flying my Sopwith Camel..............
There are even fewer people here that know what a Sopwith Camel was...or even that is a more veiled reference to the Peanuts cartoon.
But the hat must go.....horrible.

I wish I could get a Fargo hat....my pens keep freezing, and my hands go numb about halfway through a ticket now....

Oh, your "PENS" keeps freezing...trying to figure out how a hat would help you out with that, then I found I kinda read that wrong to begin with
Where the heck are my glasses anyway????

Yes it is....and despite the looks, they do come in quite handy on cold nights! I've had graveyard partners laugh at me for wearing that hat - while they were standing there shivering with their lips turning blue. There are times when I'm willing to forego "coolness" for comfort.

 That hat may look awful but it works when you're out of the car on a cold night. As for your pens freezing: use pencil. Policy permits it and a pencil works no matter how cold it gets. If you prefer pen, jam one in the far right heater vent to keep the ink warm and have it ready. Pencil is better though. Try an "H" lead in .09mm. Most mechanicals come with "HB" lead which gets all over the place including your hands. The "H" lead leaves a cleaner line.

I agree the hats look dumb. I wear a similar one when its gets nice and freeze your butt off cold. I've been laughed at before when I make the first approach on a car stop, BUT it keeps your head warm. Directing traffic when its blowing snow and about 7 degrees you do what you have to do. Sometimes its worth sucking it up and keeping your head warm.
Working near Truckee I also have the freezing pen problem. Our solution is using the Fisher brand space pens. We have found even in the coldest weather it will still write.
the first posts here are from classmates of said hat bearer...he was always good at getting attention in one form or another!

resq What forms of attention was he good at getting? I am assuming that you mean durring his academy stay. I can't imagine any attention would have been good. Any stories about said hat bearer that you would care to share?

Let's just say the attention that the "hat BEARer" recieved was always the unwanted kind. He had a knack, or should i say an overwealming need to voice his opinions. He refused to "shut up and color."
