Another Candidate For Fresno County Sheriff

January 13, 2006 - Another candidate pulled paperwork on Friday, hoping to replace outgoing Fresno County Sheriff Richard Pierce.
"Five years as the commander of the gang task force here exposed me to, I believe, an awareness of the major problem facing this county," said candidate Calvin Minor.

Calvin Minor retired from the California Highway Patrol after 33 years of service. During his time, he commanded the auto theft task force and the multi agency gang unit.

After eight years as sheriff, Pierce recently said he would not seek a third term.

Fresno County Sheriff Captains Colleen Mestas and Jose Flores recently announced their intention to run for sheriff.

I could be wrong but I thought he made Chief. I didn't know he retired so that shows how much credibility this post has.

That is great news! As someone who works in the Central Valley, I hope Minor gets elected. Richard Pierce has been a huge nemesis of the CHP lately. Pierce and his buddy, State Assemblyman Juan Arambula, have come after the CHP?s job and territory this past year. Pierce has become almost as bad as Sheriff Plummer of Alameda County. Although Im sure Minor would be out for the best interest of Fresno Co SO, like Anderson he will always be a tad blue and gold!
