Very cool, now I can drive to Sacramento four times a year until I get the darn QAP right (assuming I didn't score high enough on Monday). Anyway it is nice to see quarterly testing return.

By the way, have I mentioned how dang helpful this site is? Just a quick thanks to all of the officers and fellow applicants that come here daily with great advice and good information.

Good call. Same here, thanks to everyone who posts here. I've noticed it seems to be growing too, outstanding resource.

Until it changes... ;)

Seriously, who knows. With the State, everything is last-minute. Let's just be happy we have it back.

I think it really depends which division you are testing in. Last time Valley Div. had one in Stockton and Sacramento (I don't think there were any others in the Division). I would imagine that there'd be one in Fresno and Bakersfield...maybe Modesto....not really sure. Either way, they'll let you know where to go in advance. Anyone else want to take a stab at it?

don't feel too bad... my husband was flying back and forth from hawai'i. imagine what THAT airfare costs!

i'm glad they brought the quarterly back. it will be REALLY convenient for a lot of people, especially the active duty guys (and gals!).

Are you testing with the Coastal Division?

Each Division has several sites for the written test, you won't know which one until you get the official notice. Sacramento is in Valley Division, so that's definitely out.

I tried to make it through the process flying back and forth from Hawaii also. Very expensive and time consuming. I wasn't able to continue the testing process as a result. I commend your husband for being able to pull it off, that's impressive. Quarterly testing will definitely make things more convenient for me to resume the process.

i think he made five or six flights out? not easy to do, especially when you're in the military and have a family, haha. we really had to view it as an investment in our family's future in terms of not only job security, but job satisfaction as well. make sure you enroll in hawaiian airlines' frequent flier program. we earned TONS of interisland flights from our mainland flights. we sometimes bought tickets off of hotwire, but hawaiian usually had decent fares flying into the west coast. we once flew into ontario, which is NOT near "home," but the ticket was only $198.00 roundtrip!

we should have known you while we were on island... my husband LOVES to hunt and fish... spent most weekends in hawai'i fishing. whereabouts do you live? i miss hawai'i SO much.

They used to have an accelerated testing program for active duty military personell. Too bad thay haven't done that in a while. My son is in the Army and stationed in Hawaii. He just married a gal who was a corpsman in the Navy though she just separated because they decided to make me a grandfather. He's planning on recruiting for the CHP when he separates so I guess I'd better start saving my money in case he has to fly over a couple of times.

Incidentally, my father was a Delta pilot when I was a teenager and so I flew for nearly nothing. I flew over to the big island nearly every summer just to surf for a week or two. Very cool stuff.

Did your husband ever consider a law enforcement job in Hawaii? You'd have been able to stay.

I applied for several jobs in Hawaii after seperation. I have to say it was an eye-opening experience. According to them I wasn't qualified for anything. Hmmmm....oh well. I lived there for several years and I'm glad I'm outta there.....its a tough place to be when your a sports nut.

Oh man you are right about that! Monday night football starts at 3, or earlier, but they don't show it live so you have to avoid all radio and tv shows so you don't get the score before they show the game on delay... I could go on and on.

Yeah it would be nice to know some people who are into hunting and fishing out here. I live in Waikele area, do you know where that is? It's fairly close to Pearl Harbor. It is nice out here, but very different than most people would think. I'm still in the "adjusting" phase.

I read about that accelerated testing program for military personnel. That would have been great if they still had that, although I am not military. Since I'm a little delayed in the CHP application process, I had thought about maybe looking into the reserve program at HPD for some experience. Couldn't hurt, right?

we did, actually. hpd was doing heavy recruiting and we looked into it, but the pay just wasn't enough. we island-hopped frequently and fell in love with moloka'i. maui pd covers moloka'i, but it takes forEVER to get over there, so we nixed that, too. he worked at the shipyard there and could have stayed on as a civilian, but that's not where his heart is. all of our family is in california, so that was a big draw, too.

but, man... i miss it over there SO much. if my husband had been a submariner (and thus able to homestead out of hawai'i), i would have been hard-pressed to ever "let" him leave, haha. it was just an amazing time for us there...

oy, sports! when they are televising high school softball games, you KNOW there's a problem!

of course i know where waikele is! i'm a chick and waikele is where the outlet stores are! ;) we lived on ford island while there. how long have you been there? when we first moved, i was a wreck, sitting in the hotel for the first week. once i sucked it up, i fell in love. i worry that i'll never love california as much as i loved hawai'i.

I went to dive school on Ford Island. On a whim I was checking out Google earth in the pearl area and I noticed a BRIDGE to Ford Island! What a trip!
