Just curious as to how you are all adjusting with the new town/city you may be in now since your husbands or SO's were assigned and if you have kids, how they are adjusting to school etc....basically, how is everything going from your perspective?

Well from NOR. CAL. mommy to another the obvious is we have to move. Keep in mind that most of us CTC I-07 spouses/s.o. only have 1 month of adjusting to advise you about. For our family I believe the adjusting has gone fairly well. As a mom w/ children in both middle school & elementary it really did go better then I thought it would. I have been preparing them for a move since we knew daddy was academy bound. I never made the move seem scary & kept it very exciting to not know where we were gonna move, but that we were. I was also very fortunate that the kids & I talked openly w/ the schools that we would be moving & they had nice going away parties for them.
Everything in the little time I have become part of the CHP family is about ADJUSTING. We knew our assignment & were able to find a place to move into just in time for ride along weekend. I think this also helped for the family to know where we were calling home in 3 weeks. (we rented early, but didn't move in til after graduation) So we didn't have to rent a hotel for the ride along wkend cause we had a home. Of course the kiddos had the 1st day jitters at the new school , but it was all forgotten when school was out cause they loved it. Well w/ the exception of our oldest middle school child, but around week 2 of school he came around a bit.
Main adjustment is having your husband/father back after 27 weeks & trying to enjoy the 10 day "grace" period before break in begins. Dad had to do absolutely no CHP anything til day 5 (wed.) of "grace" period. The kids had mon/tue off so they could have a break w/ daddy too. On wed. it was all CHP prep. stuff from that point on. We don't get the kids hopes up for when dad will come home because all that matters is he does. So if he shows up early one day & not the next we just roll w/ it. As for the marriage adjusting, well we have kept the same deal we made before the academy started. NO MATTER WHO GETS THEIR PANTIES IN A BUNCH IT WILL PASS & WE WILL MOVE ON. hehe ok so not those exact words, but you get the point. We are going to fight, some one is gonna lose their cool at the fact that socks once again were left in the hall way, some one's not gonna be in the mood for "quality" time, & that no matter what we love each other now more then ever for the patience we have shown each other.
WOW! did I go Dr. Phil again? haha sorry if I did, but so hope I answered your question. Lots of mood swings & lots of loving right now & probably will continue til oh Oct 2008 when probation should be over. After that gloves are off w/ cutting our officer some slack. j/k:lol:

Great reply Rayni! Thanks!
I also have kids in middle and elementary school so that was what I was curious about. My middle schooler is absolutely hating the fact that we might possibly have to move, so I am trying to prepare her early on, and I am also trying to help my kids understand that it will be an adventure! I am so glad that you are all adjusting well and that is great advice about talking early on about feelings etc...that will definitely be something we will all be talking about before all of these changes occur. It will be tough, but also exciting and I love an adventure! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and best wishes to you and your family.
BTW, I love Dr. Phil!

I was just wondering can the SO's watch from the streets as the cadets run by or is is prohibited. I know they run down the public streets but are they heavily secured and blocked off or is just vehicle traffic blocked? Help anyone?

My friend & I were front & center at the academy, but didn't follow them all the way through. We just hopped in the car after they got past the starbucks (by the academy) & met them at the Capital. I know that they are escorted front & behind by CHP motors so they are blocked some what. It's worth it to meet them (cadets) from beginning & end of the run. IMHO  pm me if you like.

You're allowed to be out on the street at any time you want. You can park near where the run ends and listen to the cadence echo off of downtown Sacramento as they get closer and closer.

Any idea what time the run starts? I'm contemplating driving up there for the run.

some of us crazies were there at 4am, as instructed... However, the guys didn't actually leave the grounds til 5:30am, about 1/2 an hour behind schedule (well, behind what we were led to believe). Then it took another 1/2 hour for them to run to the Capitol itself. The road wasn't really shut down until they were just coming out, and then they had cars/motors in front and behind with lights flashing to keep them safe from the motoring public. Of course, at that hour there's not too much public motoring happening. Hope that helps. Don't worry about parking at the Capitol, the meter maids don't come out to enforce parking until 8 or 9am, and you'll be long gone by then. You should go, it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

Contemplating? Come on MOM you've got to go!!! Nothing compares to hearing them do cadence & watching them come up to the Capital.
Oh, Stargrl some memories we have right?:lol::lol:

Oh, Stargrl some memories we have right?:lol::lol:Oh, believe me I want to. Its only a 2 hour drive, so getting up at 3am doesn't sound like fun. (And its our busiest time o fthe year at work....) I will try and figure somthing out....

Junior's been getting up at zero-dark-thirty for nearly seven months and you don't want to get up just a little earlier for one day to go out and see him? (Just a little guilt to help get you motivated!)

I have a weird feeling I am going to be working some long days the days before so I can do this.

Some places are less than desirable.

There is an Extended Stay American almost directly across the street from the Academy. My wife and I stayed there last year during the Officer Memorial events in Sacramento. Clean, quiet and in a decent location.
