Hi & congratulations! My husband is entering CTC-III-07 as well and we will be at the orientation & dinner on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you there.

I read a suggestion elsewhere on this forum for the spouses to bring 3x5 cards with their contact information on them to exchange with others. I plan on doing that.

I am very excited for my husband and can't wait to meet with more spouses and S/O's this coming weekend. I have made up some little business cards with our contact info to hopefully swap at the dinner. Can't wait!

Hi there,
My husband is in CTC-II-07 and soon you will have your cadet entering the academy. I will be attending the orientation on Sunday. The orientation is very helpful to the cadet's families. Good luck.

Hi all!! Our family is from Southern California (Orange County) and my Husband is up north right now as I type this. We already participated in the orientation down here but he will be there for the Sunday one as well... We are not familiar with a dinner..? Is that something for the northern area??

Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and def get in touch with you all and say that I need a lot of support. We have a 15 year old and 12 year old (girls) and I work outside the home. We are very excited about this and would appreciate it if you could keep me in the loop.. : )

Hello! Nice to meet you all! My name is Cami and my husband is entering this class as well. We attended the Oct. 3 orientation for the Valley division, but we will be attending the dinner tonight. My husband and I have only been married for a year and a half; this will be our first time apart. However, we are both very excited about entering the CHP world:) My husband was formerly a mechanic and I am a teacher. I'll bring the 3x5 cards to the dinner, but I also love corresponding through email! Take care and God Bless you all,
Cami

I'm very anxious to get to talk with my husband and see how "BAD" the first day was and see if his chin is still up. I know we don't know when that will be. First day is over now though right? Anyone else watch the clock all day and wonder what they were doing?

This is such an exciting time, I hope I can help my husband remember how much he wants this and what a fabulous career he has ahead of him.

We were at the dinner and orientation on Sunday. Although overwhelming, I loved the tour of the grounds and the video shown at the orientation. It really helped me to better understand all that he is going to go through and how to support him. It was great to meet a bunch of you.

???? Anyone know when the testing is done to see if the recruits get to partake of the training table specials? ????

I'm sorry, but I am laughing here. I know it is very new to you. It may be after normal working hours for you, but CHP works 24/7/365, so no, the first day is not over til midnight, although they may be breathing a little more right now.

???? Anyone know when the testing is done to see if the recruits get to partake of the training table specials? ????Later on. Both of mine have preferred the training table, once they got used to it.

Did the spouses get to talk to some of the other CTC II-07 cadet spouses?

Hello All...I was at the dinner at Hard Rock and I am the one with the baby Cadet who turned 21 today. Just wanted to say thanks to all the wives for being so supportive because it's the crybabies like me who need it. Also for singing happy birthday to my baby... He really appreciated that one. Looks like we have just begun a journey that will last for the rest of our lives but i want to say how happy and proud i am of all the cadets for making it this far. It was a long process i'm sure all of you know. I look forward to chatting with you and seeing you again when the guys graduate...

hey III-07wives/SO's! I'm glad y'all got that first day over with, soon enough the first week will be done, and that's how you get through it, one hour/day/week at a time. It's really hard to have your cadet gone and only the "hour" (or 5 minutes) to talk to them, and to not really know what exactly they're going through. However, it is so awesome that so many of the cadets & SO's got together for dinner the night before! My husband met up with guys the night before too (I-07) and said it was somewhat reassuring to see a familiar face on pick-up day in the midst of all the chaos. I've already pm'd some of you, but if any of you have any questions or just want to vent feel free to pm me. It's the start of an arduous and very worthwhile journey! Hang in there, your cadets need you to be their rock at home so they can do their job at the academy.

Hello gals, my name is Elizabeth (or Liz) and I was at the Sunday dinner (I wore a white dress with black polka dots). I finally joined the CHP forum and am just trying to get in touch with others who were there.

So how are you ladies doing so far? I've been doing pretty well...I just hope the men are hanging in there too.

Anyway, just thought I'd make my first post and try to stay involved with what's going on. Have a great day!

i'm glad to have found this forum because i wondered how everyone else would be doing this week. it's hard because people at home aren't quite in our shoes and so they're like "aww, it's ok, don't be sad..." it's so much easier said than done. i'm sooo extremely proud of my fiancé for getting accepted and i know this will be great for our future, it's just the here and now that's a bit difficult to swallow. i know we'll make it through just fine, it's just first week jitters and adjustments going on. i wonder if we'll look back in 20 weeks at the beginning of this thread and have a completely different perspective on this whole process.

i'm hoping you're all holding up ok. only a few more days till week 1 is over...

Welcome to the forum. I promise you will. I know 27 weeks seems sooooo long but by the end you will be amazed at how fast time flew by. As Rayni said in a different thread, you are both (meaning you and your cadet) going through entirely different experiences. I think the first 2 weeks are the toughest. After 2 weeks you will both begin to adjust and adapt to the changes.

When they come home this weekend, be preparied to support and encourage them to NOT GIVE UP! IF there is any time at all that they are going to want to quit, it will probably be this first Sunday night when they have to go back to the academy and leave their families again. IF that happens, do whatever you have to, to get them to go back. You ladies are a very important part of helping them to succeed at the academy. Hang in there. It's all worth it in the end. It really is.

IF that happens, do whatever you have to, to get them to go back. This is so true. I know it was many weeks before my son actually wanted to go back. OK, maybe wanted is to much, but at least he wasn't saying "I don't want to go back..." It is so important for the families to stand strong for their cadets. They need to know their family can stand on their own while they are at the academy. They need to know their spouses/significant others/families will be ok. If/when your cadet comes home for the weekend, be prepared that they may not want to do evrything. They may want to sleep, they will have HOMEWORK!, they will have laundry, and they will need to do some shopping.

The academy has been the best experience ever for my son.

Thanks dlg2k6! I agree, this time will fly right on by. I knew deep down this week would be the hardest for me. It's funny you should mention this Sunday because i was already thinking about it. I can hear him now telling me he wants to stay home with me and how inside i'll be wanting so badly to say "just stay" but obviously i would NEVER ask that of him. I so badly want him to succeed and so i know i'll stand tall and encourage him to keep going.

i was all excited when i heard his ringtone on my phone tonight and he sounded much better than yesterday. made my heavy heart feel a little lighter... i also could hear it in his voice when i told him how we (his family) are all doing ok... Then I came on here and read Mom's post about letting them know we can stand on our own two feet and smiled because i know how much he needed to hear it... glad to see someone else point that out as well.

well i better go before i write a novel...

hope you ladies are doing well tonight...my thoughts are with you all.

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is doing good. When I heard my cadet yesterday i felt a big load off my back. Monday morning he seemed like he had a doubt if he was going to make it. When I talked to him last night and tonight he sounded much better. He said it wasn't as bad as he thought it was going to be. That made me feel a lot better and relived. I told him the only way out was graduation. Me and my two sons are trying to adjust without my husband it will be rough the first two weeks, but we will make it. Tonight when I talked to him he wanted to hear that we were doing good. He kept asking are you guys okay? I told him don't worry about us you have enough to deal with at the academy. Like one of the ladies said "It's a small sacrifice for a great reward." If anyone needs anything just let me know. We are from the Fresno are by the way. I was at the Sunday orientation I was the one with the two boys. Well ladies have a good night.

letting them know we can stand on our own two feet and smiled because i know how much he needed to hear it... glad to see someone else point that out as well.Glad it helped. Another thing, keep the phone handy for the evening calls. They are very important to the cadets. But, remember that often while they are calling they are probably also shining boots or brass. There is so much to do in the evenings, but they want to make a connection with home.

The first week is rough. But they can do it if they try, if they stay and don't walk away. Don't let them walk away.

And new pics are up for both CTC -I-07 and CTC II-07.

I think we'll all be ok when next week comes around. I talked to my cadet today and he said that it was a lil easier today but it was still hard enough. To be honest, I didn't even know i had this many tears but Im starting to feel better and better with time. Yeah i think I'm just about tired of people telling me it will be ok when they have no idea...Hang in there ladies! I think with each other and the ladies who have been in it for a while, we can do this. If there's no pain there's no gain right?...

i know how you feel chokolat_dream... each day gets a bit easier (for us)... the first day/night was so nerve wracking but yesterday was a little easier and each day should get better and better. at least we know there's a light at the end of the tunnel and our focus is to help support our cadets because they need us now more than ever. my fiancé said they won't start PT until thursday but the first real workout isn't until friday. he was surprised that they didn't throw them into everything all at once (what he was prepared for...) so it's been a bit better with them easing them into everything. he is prepping himself for when they step it up and the whole routine is in full swing... day 3 has begun, we're one step closer...

It's day three and I'm doing a lot better. Just wanted to again thank the others who are giving me so many words of encouragment. It really helped me out a lot. Now the only thing i can think about is seeing him in two more days. There is no saddest in that!! Have a good day ladies.

i hear ya! i also had a great weekend with my cadet... i had the biggest smile on my face when he walked through the door. was nice to see him smiling just the same. of course the weekend wasn't long enough (but then again they NEVER are...) but it was just so refreshing to have him home with me. granted, i know there are no guarantees that he'll be home every weekend but now we've been through our first week and weekend and so it makes it a little easier to get through the rest. hope you're all doing well tonight...

I would like to chime in here regarding the support group and getting to know each other aspects of future cadet/officers and their significant others.

It is a fine thing you who are trying to connect here are doing for each other. No officer will long survive without a lot of support from the home front. No cadet will graduate without support from the home front.

Do MORE of this stuff. All of the posts on this thread are great stuff and I commend you all.
