Just call your local office and ask. I have done 4 or 5 ride alongs with CHP now, and all of them were before I started the process, so even if you haven't officially started the process you still might be able to go out. It might have helped that I have a friend who is an officer that invited me out, but it really just depends on the area. Call 'em up and have fun.

Ditto. Just call a few offices and speak with a Sarge. For the most part you just need good reason as to why you want to partake of one. Tell 'em you're thinking of applying and want to see what the department is all about.

Well on sat. morning i took the written at Pioneer H.S. in Whittier. I am really confident that i passed it!!!

Well after that i went over to the Baldwin Park office and did my first ride along. Let me say that if you haven't done one already then you need to do it because it was a ton of fun. The officer that i rode with was very happy to tell answer all my questions and gave me tons of information that would be useful in the future. I am looking forward to my next ride along and what new stuff i might experience with it. This time we got some expired tags, an accident, performed a traffic break, assisted an officer with some angry passenger, and got some speeders(i got to write two of the tickets). All in all it was a great day that i will never forget. In case anybody cared we where working the 210 from the 605 to the 57.

I love spotting violations and writing out the tickets on my RAs. I look older than my age, dress neat, keep my hair short, and wear Matrix style sunglasses... so 95% of people, including cops from assisting agencies, mistake me as a plain clothes officer. I hope I make it in, CHP is such a great job.

Very Nice!

I will have to do that sometime. Do you simply go to any station and schedule an appointment?

What is the process to ride along?

Do officers actually enjoy ride alongs? Because one of my Instructors that retired from LASD goes on sayin all the time how much he hated them.

The process is different for each office. Doesn't hurt to call, but almost certianly have to be in the application process. Read some of the other threads that I don't have time to link to right now.

Some Officers like ride-alongs, some don't. I do -- I like showing people the job and answering questions. I would venture to say the majority of Officers don't mind them, and those that do probably aren't assigned them much.

check you local office out and see about the ride alongs. you could always come out to Baldwin Park and do it here if you wanted. the officer i had was super nice and didn't mind answering all of my MANY questions. whenever we where with other officers they would also talk to me and ask me questions. Baldwin Park, like any office i would assume, has a great group of officers.

to do the ride along you need to be in the process. when you get there for the ride along they will have you sign a simple release form and then my Sgt. decided who he wanted to put me with, and also asked the officer if he had to much paperwork to do, and that is who i went to. the Sgt. also introduced me to all of the guys during the brief.
