My husband is in CTC II-07 and the dream sheet should be coming out in a couple of weeks. I hear that owning a home with school-age children is a major determining factor in where cadets are placed. My concern is this: We own our home, but do not own the land. The property is family owned but we do not have a deed, as it is in my parents' names. We do have a mortgage and pay property taxes, but I'm wondering if the CHP counts this. Any information would help.

I'm not a chippy yet, but I remembered reading something about this in the applicant study guide. Here's a link:

I hope it works and answers your question.

Grant deed must be in the cadet's name. Let's hope your cadet has a high last four digits.

I was afraid of that. We're hoping that his SS is high enough (in the 8000's), but how much does that really matter? I mean, I wonder how much the SS# really weighs.

If you haven't already discovered this, I should point out that it only applies if there is an opening near your home. There's a distance factored in as well. I'm not certain on that number but I think it's 50 miles. If there's no opening at an area office near your home, your cadet's assignment will be factored in like everyone else; via ssn.

It's 50 miles. I think in my class 1 person fell into the owning a home criteria. With these large classes there have been cadets sent to some very unusual places. CTC I-07 had three going to resident posts. It starts at SS# 9999 so he has a good chance to get a decent choice.

Central Valley.... they could end up in the Bay Area if they are lucky. Hayward, Castro Valley, Oakland, San jose, SF, Dublin, Redwood, and CoCo have all taken Cadets. Modesto took one not too long ago but that would be few and far between I would think.

I think Coalinga and Porterville recently took cadets as well.

Hopefully someday when I'm ready for the CHP and make it through everything. I actually prefer the west valley/ la area. :)

I agree with graver, welcome to Central Los Angeles.
When I went through the Academy, the lowest SS# had first choice of assignments.
Mine were 14** and still chose CLA, go and figure it out.
